[Shot of Sayid, Kate, Jack and Juliet walking across a large expanse of island grassland with mountains in the distance. Cut to shot of the group wading through a large creek under the jungle trees. Sayid makes it to the other side of the creek and removes his backpack]

Sayid   It's getting late. This is a good place to make camp.

[The rest of the group comes up and drops their backpacks]

Jack   I'll get some firewood.

Kate   I'll go with you.

[Cut to Kate and Jack getting firewood]

Kate   You want to talk about it?

Jack   About what?

Kate   About the week you spent over there...with them.

Jack   Well, after you left...I'd, uh...I'd made a deal with them that if I took care of Ben that they'd let me off the island. So I just kept my head down, did what I was supposed to. And I didn't ask any questions.

Kate   And that's it?

Jack   That's it.

[Cut to Sayid and Juliet back at the creek side. Juliet is washing dirt and mud from her face. Sayid is watching her intently]

Juliet   Ok. Let's have it.

Sayid   I want to know what you people are doing on this island. Why you are terrorizing us, making lists, kidnapping children. I want to know everything. But the first thing I'd like to know is...who are you?

[Flashback to Juliet and her sister Rachel driving up to a building in a car. The song 'Downtown' by Petula Clark is playing on the car radio. The car pulls up to a secured gate. A security officer walks over to Juliet's window]

Juliet   Hi! I'm Juliet Burke. I'm with Mittelos Bioscience.

Guard   I'll let Mr. Alpert know you're here.

Juliet   Thank you.

[Juliet rolls up her window]

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Well!

[Juliet and Rachel both laugh. Rachel looks out at the cameras and gates around the building]

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    I think they're taking this whole 'Corporate Secrecy' thing a little too seriously.

Juliet   I'm never going to fit in with these people.

[Ethan Rom comes over to Juliet's window and knocks. She rolls the window down to talk with him]

Ethan   Hey there, Dr. Burke. If you pop the trunk I'll get your bags.

Juliet   Thank you.

[Ethan walks to the back of the car and begins pulling her bags out. The security gate in front of the car slides open and Richard Alpert walks through to Juliet's car. Juliet opens the door and gets out. Rachel gets out of the passenger side]

Richard Alpert   Ah, you managed to find us!

Juliet   I didn't even know they had an airport out here!

Richard Alpert   Oh, I know. It surprises everyone. [Looking over the car at Rachel] Hi. You must be Rachel.

[Richard walks around and greets Rachel]

Richard Alpert   Richard Alpert.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Nice to meet you.

Richard Alpert   Thank you for letting us borrow your sister for a few months.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Just promise me you'll bring her back in 1 piece.

Richard Alpert   [Chuckling] Well, we'll do our best. [Speaking to Juliet]. Uh, so listen it's, uh, it's a security thing. [Indicating a large white van inside the gates] Uh, we have to take you in the rest of the way. So...whenever you're ready we'll be waiting right over here. But, please take your time. [Shaking Rachel's hand] A pleasure to meet you.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Thank you.

Richard Alpert   Thank you.

[Juliet and Rachel face each other. Juliet looks worried and sad]

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    It's better this way.

Juliet   Is this a mistake? I shouldn't go. What if you get sick again?

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    I won't. The cancer's gone. And...I'm 100 percent preggers thanks to you.

Juliet   I'll be back.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Yes, I know.

Juliet   Before you give birth, I promise.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    I know. Don't worry about us. Okay?

Juliet   Okay.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    You spent your whole life working to get here. So, don't blow it.

[They both laugh]   

Juliet   I love you.   

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    I love you.

[Rachel and Juliet hug]

Juliet   Okay.

Rachel (Juliet Sister)    Go make us proud.

[Juliet turns and walks over to the van inside the gates. The gates begin closing and Rachel is very close to them]

Guard   Mam?

[The gates close completely and Rachel looks through the bars as Juliet gets in the van. The van doors shut and Juliet is no longer visible. The scene is very similar to prison doors closing on an inmate. Cut to Sayid questioning Juliet beside the creek in the jungle]

Sayid   Who are you?

Juliet   If I told you who I was, if I told you everything that I know...you'd kill me.

Sayid   What do you think I'll do if you don't?

[Jack walks up and drops firewood on the ground]

Jack   Leave her alone.

Sayid   Sooner or later she'll answer my questions.

Jack   She'll answer your questions when she's ready. And you'll wait until she is. She's under my protection.

[Cut to shot of the beach camp. A few people are on the beach talking. Charlie walks near Claire's tent and baby Aaron is wailing]

Charlie   Claire?

[Charlie goes over to the front of the tent and Claire is lying down asleep. Aaron is still crying loudly]

Charlie   Claire? Claire?

[Charlie picks up Aaron]

Charlie   [Speaking in a soothing voice] Oh. Oh...what is it? Oh, it's okay. Shh shh. Hey, now, it's okay. It's okay.

[Aaron quiets down and Charlie goes over to Claire]

Charlie   Claire? Hey! Claire! You okay?

[Claire awakens and is sluggish]

Claire   [Sleepily] Charlie. What's going on?

Charlie   Didn't you hear Aaron?

Claire   Is he okay?

Charlie   No, he's okay, he's okay. Are you all right?

Claire   Yeah, I just...just feel a little bit off. I, I didn't sleep well. I can't, can't believe I didn't hear him crying!

Charlie   Well maybe you're coming down with something. Well, why don't you let me take Aaron and you get some more rest?

Claire   Yeah, do you mind?

Charlie   Absolutely!

[Claire lays back down, already looking half asleep]

Claire   I won't sleep long.

[Cut to jungle interior. Sayid is leading the way through the underbrush, furiously hacking away at the limbs with a machete. Kate is right behind him. Jack and Juliet follow along behind a distance]

Juliet   I guess it's no use asking them to wait up, huh?

Jack   They'll come around, just give them some time.

Juliet   My people kept Sayid chained to a swing set for 3 days. Then I dragged Kate to the jungle, handcuffed myself to her and lied about it. [Facetiously] How much time do you think they need?

[Jack smiles]

Jack   Be back to our beach in a couple of hours. They'll probably be over it by then.

[They both laugh]

Jack   You nervous?

Juliet   Hell yes.

[Flashback to Richard and Juliet walking away from a private airline ticket sales counter. The name of the airline is 'Herarat Aviation'. The logo for Herarat Aviation is a triple Nike wing]

Richard Alpert   I know that, uh, 6 months sounds like an eternity, but you're going to be amazed at how time flies once you're there.

Juliet   I can't wait to find out where 'there' is.

[Richard and Juliet walk into a waiting area where Ethan is standing]

Ethan   Dr. Burke? Want to have a seat? I'd like to take some of your vitals. If that's okay with you?

Juliet   [Confused] Yeah...sure.

[Richard walks over to a counter and pours a glass of orange juice]

Richard Alpert   Everyone in the company is really excited about you coming down, Dr. Burke. And I think your research is really going to have a major impact on us.

[In full view of Juliet, Richard pulls out a packet of a powdery substance and pours it into the glass of juice. Ethan wraps a manual inflation blood pressure monitor around Juliet's left arm as Richard brings the drink over to Juliet]

Juliet   What is that?

Richard Alpert   That is orange juice...with a considerable amount of tranquilizer mixed in.

Juliet   You want me to drink it?

Richard Alpert   Oh, yes! You're going to want to be asleep for the trip, Dr. Burke.

Ethan   [Smiling and agreeing with Richard] It can be kind of intense.

Juliet   [Incredulous] Uh...okay. I was fine with signing all of your paperwork, fine with agreeing to not talk to anyone in my life for 6 months, fine with the fact that no one in the medical community has ever heard of Mittelos Bioscience...

Richard Alpert   Well...why were you fine?

Juliet   What?

Richard Alpert   Wh..why were you fine with those things? It seems like quite a leap for a job opportunity. I mean, we're not paying you that much.

[Juliet doesn't respond]

Richard Alpert   I think you're fine because deep down, part of you knows that the place we're taking you too is special.

Juliet   Special, huh?

Richard Alpert   Let me ask you something, Juliet. You took a woman, your own sister, whose reproductive system was ravaged by chemotherapy, who was...sterile, and you made her pregnant. You created life where life wasn't supposed to be. That's a gift, Juliet. You have a gift. Now, don't you feel you're meant to do something significant with it? Where we're going, you can do just that.

Juliet   Where exactly are we going?

Richard Alpert   [Interrupting] I can't tell you that. What I can tell you is that...you'll see things there that you never imagined.

[Juliet looks at Richard, considering what he has said]

Richard Alpert   Now, no one is forcing you to do anything. So, if you change your mind, we're...we're happy to take you back to...

[Juliet grabs the glass of orange juice and drinks it all in one large gulp]

Ethan   Um, you probably shouldn't have drunk that so fast...

[Juliet quickly passes out. Cut to interior of the submarine. The lighting is red. Juliet is in a very small upper bunk behind a curtain. The ceiling overhead is very close and curves over her. She is strapped into the bed and can't get out and she starts to panic. Ethan slides open the curtain and looks at her]

Ethan   Morning.

[Juliet tries to speak but she has lost her voice]

Ethan   No no no. It's ok. [Chuckling] You'll be hoarse for a few hours but it gets better as the day goes on.

[Ethan begins taking the straps off Juliet]

Ethan   Sorry I had to strap you in, but the last leg is always a little bumpy.

[Juliet begins to sit up]

Ethan   Watch your head! Give me your hand.

[Juliet slowly gets down from the bunk. She gets some of her personal items and then is led forward through the sub by Ethan]

Ethan   We're here!

Juliet   [Hoarsely] Here, where?

[Ethan points upward. Juliet looks up and sees the ladder leading out the sub hatch. Sunlight and the sounds of birds chirping comes down the hatch opening. Juliet climbs up the ladder and onto the sub's deck. She stands and sees the island for the first time. The camera backs out and shows the small sub, the dock and the mountains of the island. Ben walks up the pier to the sub]

Ben   Hello Dr. Burke. My name is Benjamin Linus.

[Juliet is still standing on top of the sub. Ben reaches up to her and shakes her hand]

Ben   I'm really looking forward to working with you. Watch your step here.

[Ben helps Juliet step off the sub onto the pier and they walk toward the island. Cut to the beach camp. Charlie is holding baby Aaron while Hurley sits by a fire cooking something]

Charlie   Hey, whoa! That's too much water. It's going to be all soggy.

Hurley   It's oatmeal, dude. It's supposed to be soggy.

[Sawyer walks up]

Sawyer   Well, if it ain't 3 men and a baby.

[Charlie and Sawyer look up, confused since it's only the two of them]

Sawyer   I counted Hugo twice.

[Sawyer walks on by to a table to get some food. Sawyer and Hurley look miffed]

Sawyer   Aw, what? Come on, I used your name!

[Claire slowly walks up to the group. She looks really tired and disheveled]

Claire   Hey. Does anybody know where there's any aspirin?

Desmond   Claire, you don't look so good.

Charlie   What you doing up? You're meant to be in bed.

Claire   Yeah, no, I know. It's...my head's pounding

Sawyer   I got you covered. 2 aspirin coming right up.

Claire   Thank you.

[Sawyer begins walking away, but then stops as he notices someone coming up the beach. He looks and it's Jack walking alone]

Sawyer   [Happily surprised] Son of a bitch.

[Sun and Jin are on the beach washing things in a makeshift basin. Sun looks up and sees Jack]

Sun   Jack! [Getting Jin's attention] It's Jack!

[Sawyer keeps watching and then sees Kate coming up behind Jack with Sayid following her. At the sight of Kate, Sawyer looks very relieved. Everyone else on the beach notices the group and starts coming over, shaking hands and giving hugs. Hurley hugs everyone. Sawyer watches at a distance, then walks up to Jack. The shake hands, then Sawyer grabs Jack and hugs him. Sawyer and Kate look at each other, then walk up and give each other a long hug. Sawyer then notices Juliet coming up the beach]

Sawyer   [Angry] What the hell is she doing here!

[Cut to shot of Juliet sitting on the beach alone, close to the water's edge. Hurley walks up and sits beside her]

Hurley   Hey.

Juliet   Hey.

Hurley   Sooo. You're like...one of Them, huh?

Juliet   I'm Juliet.

[Hurley has a scowl on his face and is not happy]

Hurley   I don't remember you from the dock. Where you put bags on our heads. After you shocked us.

Juliet   I had the day off.

[Hurley tries to suppress a smile, not wanting to like Juliet]

Hurley   So, I hear you're a doctor.

Juliet   I'm more of a researcher.

[Juliet and Hurley sit in silence for a bit]

Juliet   They send you over here to keep an eye on me?

[Hurley nods]

Juliet   Ok.

Hurley   [Making a subtle threat] The last one of you guys that came over here? Ethan? He kidnapped Claire and...Charlie got upset. [Pointing down the beach] We buried him over there.

[Juliet looks down the beach where Ethan is buried. Then she quits trying to make small talk. Flashback to Juliet in an operating room on the island. A few others are there as well. Everyone is wearing a blue smock with the DHARMA logo of The Flame station printed on them. An EKG with a long beep shows a flat line. With bloody latex gloves, Ethan pulls down his mask]

Ethan   She's gone, Juliet. She's dead.

[Goodwin is also in the room. Behind him can be seen a large round clock on the wall. The time reads 12:18]

Goodwin   [Speaking to Juliet] Hey, it's okay. You tried. Why don't you go ahead and take off. I'll talk to Ben.

[Juliet walks out of the room. Cut to shot of Juliet sitting on a rocky section of the beach looking out into the ocean. Ben walks up beside her. He is carrying a brown satchel on a strap over his shoulder]

Ben   It was Sabine's choice to get pregnant.

[Ben sits next to her]

Ben   She knew she was taking a risk.

Juliet   I think it happens at conception. And if that's the case there's nothing I can do about it. At least not here.

Ben   I'm not sure I understand.

Juliet   The only way to see if I'm right is to take a woman off the island, back to Miami...

Ben   You're not taking anybody off the island.

Juliet   In that case, there's nothing more I can do. I know you put a lot of faith in me, Ben. And I'm sorry I couldn't help you. My sister's giving birth...in 3 months...and I haven't even been able to call her. It's time for me to go home.

[Juliet gets up and starts to walk away]

Ben   Your sister won't be giving birth in 3 months, Juliet. She'll be dead before then. Her cancer is back.

[Juliet stops and looks at Ben. Ben opens the brown satchel and pulls out a document folder. Juliet looks inside at graphs of a cancer screening. She becomes distraught]

Juliet   Where did you get this?

Ben   Mikhail. I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner. I just didn't see what good it would do...

Juliet   [Yelling] What good it would do?! I could have gone home! I could have been with her!

Ben   You still can. You can go home, Juliet. Be with her in her final days. Or you can stay here and help me with our problem.

Juliet   Why would I stay?

Ben   Because if you do, I will cure your sister's cancer.

Juliet   I'm supposed to take that on faith?

Ben   You've been here for 6 months. You've done extensive workups on all of us. Have you seen even a trace of cancer?

Juliet   That's here! And being that you won't let me bring my sister here I'm going to need more...

Ben   Jacob said he would take care of it himself. Unless, of course, you don't have faith in him.

[Juliet looks upset but wanting to believe]

Ben   Every woman on this island needs you. If you choose to stay...I promise you, we will save Rachel's life.

[Cut to shot of the beach camp at night. Several people are sitting around the food table talking to Jack. The area is lit with torches and campfires]

Sun   Trust her?! She's one of them!

Jack   Not anymore. They left her behind.

Charlie   Oh yeah, where'd they go?

Jack   I told you I don't know.

Sawyer   Maybe we'd better ask her?

Jack   She doesn't know either.

Sawyer   Here's a whacky idea, let's sick our resident Iraqi on her. Let him do what he does and then see what she says.

Sayid   No. I don't do that anymore.

Sawyer   Well ain't that convenient.

Sayid   But I don't trust her, Jack. If she's so innocent why won't...

Charlie   [Speaking to Claire who walks up to the group] Hey.

Sayid   ...she answer our questions?

Jack   Give her some time, she's afraid?

Sayid   How much time?

Jack   Look, the fact that I trust her should be enough.

Sayid   It's not.

Desmond   Where did Locke go?

Jack   He went with them...right after he destroyed the sub. The sub that was gonna take me off this island.

Hurley   What?

Sawyer   They were gonna let you go?

Jack   Yeah.

Sawyer   Said who?

Jack   Ben.

Sawyer   Ben...whose life you saved.

Kate   Sawyer, lay off.

Sawyer   Should've let that bug-eyed bastard die.

Kate   Yeah, well he did it for us.

Sawyer   Sounds like he did it for him.

Kate   James.

Jack   Something you want to ask me Sawyer?

Sawyer   Yeah Jack, I want to ask you why you're fighting every single one of us and sticking up for one of them?

Jack   Look, I spent every moment over there trying to find a way off this island...

Charlie   [Quietly speaking to Claire while Jack talks] Claire?

Jack   I was trying to help all of us...trying to get us rescued.

[Claire is bleeding from the mouth then starts to pass out]

Charlie   [Quietly speaking to Claire while Jack talks] Claire? [Frantic] Jack?! Something wrong with Claire!

[Jack runs over to Claire while murmuring can be heard in the group]

Charlie   Claire?

Woman   Oh my gosh...

Charlie   Claire?

Woman   ...what's wrong with her?

Man   Is she okay?

Woman   I don't know.

Jack   Right, right. Put her head back. Put her head back.

Charlie   Okay, okay, okay.

Jack   Let's get her up. Let's get her up.

[Charlie and Jack lift Claire up and carry her to her tent]

Charlie   Claire? Claire?

Jack   How long she been like this?

Charlie   Uh, she started feeling bad this morning

Jack   Before we got back was she showing any symptoms at all?

Charlie   No, she was fine.

Jack   What about water? Has she been drinking enough water?

Charlie   I think so. Yeah.

Jack   Alright. Keep that head up.

[They lay Claire down and the scene shifts to the survivors watching the scene and Juliet has now joined them]

Juliet   [To Jin and Sun] What happened to her?

Jin   [Says something in Korean]

Sun   He said, 'What do you care?'

[The scene shifts to Juliet approaching Kate away from the crowd]

Juliet   Kate, I need your help. I need you to go and get Jack.

Kate   Well, he's busy right now.

Juliet   Please, I have to talk to him.

Kate   You want to tell me why you need Jack?

Juliet   Because I think I know what's wrong with Claire.

Kate   Why?

Juliet   Because I did it to her.

[The scene shifts and from a distance we see Kate get Jack and bring him to Juliet. Background chatter can be heard from the survivors. The scene moves to show Sawyer and Sayid watching from a distance]

Sawyer   Giving you a bad feeling in your stomach?

[Sayid nods his head yes]

Sawyer   Yeah, me too.

[The scene shifts to Juliet who is talking to Jack and Kate]

Juliet   Claire's immunity system is turning on her. She's having a latent reaction to a medication in her blood stream.

Jack   What medication?

Juliet   It was designed to keep her alive during the late stages of her pregnancy.

Jack   Designed by who?

Juliet   By me. For some reason, the women here can't have babies. The mother's body turns on the pregnancy, treats it as a foreign invader. I saw it happen over and over. Every pregnant woman on this island died. That is, every pregnant woman until Claire.

Jack   What did you do to her?

Juliet   One of our people infiltrated your camp and began taking blood samples, right after your plane crashed.

[The scene flashes back to images that show Ethan sneaking up on Claire, him covering her mouth, her screaming, and him injecting a needle into her]

Ethan   Shhh.

[The scene shifts back to Kate]

Kate   [Realizing] Ethan.

Juliet   Even though Claire didn't conceive on this island, we found that her symptoms were consistent with the previous mothers, so we tried to save her life.

Jack   By kidnapping her.

Juliet   No, that wasn't supposed to happen. She was our control case. I had developed a serum that I thought would reverse what was happening to her. Ethan was administering the injections...but, then you found out that he wasn't on the plane.

[The scene flashes back to images of Hurley running to Jack with the manifest]

Hurley   The census. I interviewed everyone. One of them isn't in the manifest. He wasn't on the plane.

[The scene shifts back to Juliet]

Juliet   So, he improvised.

[The scene flashes back to Claire and Charlie in the jungle when Ethan walks up on them]

Ethan   Hello there.

[The scene shifts to The Staff station where a needle is taken from a shelf. The camera pans back to reveal Ethan holding it. Images of Ethan wiping Claire's stomach, injecting the needle, a scream from her, and the airplane mobile are seen. This occurs while Juliet narrates]

Juliet   He kidnapped her on his own. That was never the plan.

[The scene shifts back to Juliet]

Juliet   Look, I know how this sounds, but without those injections, Claire would have died. Without the serum she's going into a form of withdrawal and if I don't treat her quickly, her immune system could shut down entirely. Jack, I can fix this. I just need the serum. Ethan kept a stash of the medical supplies near the caves where you used to live. If I go right now, I can be back before it's to late.

[Jack looks to Kate who shrugs]

Jack   Do it. Get moving.

[The scene flashes back to Juliet sitting nude in bed eating ice cream and staring into space. Goodwin is in bed with her]

Goodwin   Where are you?

Juliet   In bed...with you.

Goodwin   [Laughing] Uh huh. And where were you?

Juliet   I was just realizing...

[Juliet feeds a spoonful of ice cream to Goodwin]

Juliet   ...that tomorrow I will have been on this island for 3 years.

Goodwin    Hmmm.   [Goodwin kisses Juliet's bare knee]

Goodwin   Well...

[Goodwin kisses Juliet's bare shoulder]

Goodwin   ...then I'd better bake a cake.

[They kiss and a knock is heard on their door]

Juliet   Stay here.

[The scene shifts to Juliet examining x-rays of Ben's spine. Goodwin enters the room buttoning his shirt while she examines them]

Goodwin   What have you got there?

Juliet   Karl developed some x-rays for me.

Goodwin   What's wrong?

[The scene shifts to Juliet walking out of her house and down the sidewalk while carrying the x-rays with her]

Man   Morning Juliet.

[The scene shifts to Ben sitting at his desk when he hears a knock on his door. He is reading the book Carrie. He walks and opens the door]

Ben   Hi.

Juliet   Can I come in?

Ben   Of course.

[Juliet enters and Ben close the door]

Ben   I was just finishing Carrie. Still don't know why you picked it, but boy is it depressing.

Juliet   You have a tumor.

Ben   [Stunned] What?

Juliet   When you told me about your back pain I said that I would take some x-rays to see if it was a small fracture or a herniated disk...but that's not your problem.

[Juliet takes out the x-ray and hands it to Ben]

Juliet   Your problem is a large tumor surrounding your L-4 vertebrae.

[Ben studies the x-ray and appears shocked]

Juliet   You're surprised.

Ben   Well, you just told me that I have cancer, Juliet, of course I'm surprised.

Juliet   No, I told you that you have a tumor.

[Ben walks to his kitchen and Juliet follows him]

Juliet   Why are you scared?

Ben   I'm not scared.

[Ben takes a glass from the cabinet and begins filling it with water from the sink faucet]

Juliet   Why are you scared, Ben? You said no one on this island ever had cancer. You told me that.

Ben   I know what I told you, Juliet.

Juliet   You told me you could fix it! You said that! You said that you cured my sister! You lied to me!

Ben   [Defensive] No I did not lie to you.

Juliet   If you can cure cancer, Ben, then why do you have it?

Ben   I don't know.

[Juliet slaps the glass of water out of Ben's hand, it falls to the floor breaking, and she points her finger in his face]

Juliet   I want to talk to her. I want to talk to Rachel! I want to talk to her, now!

Ben   It's not gonna happen, Juliet, but I can promise you that Rachel is fine.

Juliet   You never cured her!

Ben   I did!

Juliet   You're a liar!

Ben   No, Juliet!

Juliet   [Screaming] You lied to me!

Ben   I told you the truth! I gave you my word.

Juliet   [Crying] I don't...

[She breaks down and buries her face in Ben's chest. Ben seems shocked and doesn't know how to respond]

Juliet   [Crying] I want to go home. I want to go home, Ben. Please. Can't you please just let me go home?

Ben   No.

Juliet   [Anguished] Ohhhh.

[Ben walks away and Juliet falls on his kitchen counter crying. The scene then shifts to Juliet walking purposefully in the jungle. She approaches a big tree and finds a locked box underneath it in the shrubbery. She begins entering the combination to the lock that secures it when Sayid and Sawyer appear]

Sayid   Step away from the case.

Juliet   Listen to me Sayid.

Sayid   Step back.

[Juliet steps back]

Juliet   It's full of medical supplies. They're for Claire. Jack knows all about it.

Sawyer   Jack ain't here right now, is he?

[Sawyer opens the case revealing medical supplies]

Juliet   I'm telling you the truth.

Sayid   You said earlier if you told me everything you knew, I'd kill you. I'm going to test the validity of that statement.

Sawyer   He means talk.

Juliet   We don't have time for this.

Sawyer   We cleared our schedules. We got all the time in the world.

Juliet   You know what's interesting? That you 2 are now the camp's moral police. I'm curious, Sayid. How long was it before you told everyone on that beach exactly how many people you've tortured in your life? Do they know about Basra? And I'm sure the first thing you did when you got here, James, was to gather everyone in a circle and tell them about the man you shot in cold blood the night before you got on the plane. So why don't we just skip the part where you 2 pretend to be righteous. I'm taking that medication back to Claire. And you're gonna let me. Because if she doesn't get it, she's gonna die. And the last thing that either of you need right now...is more blood on your hands.

[She takes the medical case from Sawyer who does not resist. The scene flashes back to Juliet playing a CD and listening to the song 'Downtown' by Petula Clark. Images are shown of her struggling to hold it together, setting up chairs in a circle, the book club meeting where an argument breaks out, the earth shaking which ends the meeting, and everyone heading outside to witness Flight 815 breaking apart in the sky]

Ben   Goodwin. Ethan. There may actually be survivors...and you're one of them. You're a passenger. You're in shock. Listen, learn, and don't get involved. I want lists in 3 days. Go.

[Ethan and Goodwin head out and Ben turns to Juliet who is holding a copy of the book Carrie]

Ben   So I guess I'm out of the book club.

[Juliet turns and starts to walk away]

Ben   Juliet? Juliet?

[Juliet turns and faces Ben]

Ben   I was looking for you this morning. You and I need to talk.

Juliet   Now?

Ben   We have some time. It's important. Take a walk with me.

[Ben and Juliet start walking and the scene shifts to them walking up to The Flame station at night]

Ben   [Speaking into a walkie-talkie] Mikhail, we're here.

[Static is heard]

Ben   He never has his walkie on.

Juliet   What are we doing here?

Ben   Something I need to show you.

[They approach The Flame station]

Ben   Mikhail! It's Ben! I'm here with Juliet! We're approaching the house! Don't shoot us...

Mikhail   [From inside the station] Well hurry up then.

[Inside The Flame station Mikhail leads Ben and Juliet to a wall of monitors]

Mikhail   Did you see it?

Ben   A plane fell out of the sky, Mikhail... of course we saw it. What do you have so far?

[Mikhail sits in front of 6 monitors which appear to display images of the plane and different news feeds of the event]

Mikhail   Oceanic Flight 815. Left Sydney, Australia, headed for Los Angeles, 324 people on board including the flight crew.

Ben   I want detailed files on every single passenger.

Mikhail   Already working on it.

Ben   Can we uplink to Richard in Acadia Park please.

[Mikhail adjusts a dial on the console]

Ben   [To Juliet] Yesterday, you called me a liar. I was hurt by that.

[Ben puts on a set of headphones and addresses the uplink]

Ben   Hello Richard, can you hear me?

[The screen focuses on a copy of the Miami Journal. Ben points to the screen]

Ben   Notice today's date. This is live. Okay Richard.

[The scene pans out to show a playground where a young boy slides down a slide and is caught by a woman. The woman turns and it is Rachel holding a young boy]

Juliet   Oh my God. Oh my God.

[Juliet steps forward, places her hands on the screen]

Juliet   [Crying] Oh. Oh my God.

[The scene on the screen shows Rachel and her child running and laughing on the playground]

Ben   A little over 2 years ago, to everyone's surprise, Rachel's cancer went into complete remission. Shortly after, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. His name is Julian. [To the uplink] Okay thank you, Richard. You'll wanna get back here as soon as you can. We may have some new visitors.

[The screen goes blank and Juliet reacts in anguish]

Juliet   [Crying] Oh God! No! No! No!

[She grabs Mikhail's hand which is on the control, but the feed is lost]

Ben   I'm not a liar Juliet.

Juliet   [Crying] I want to go home.

Ben   That's not our agreement. You need to stay here until your work is finished.

Juliet   [Crying] It's impossible. The mothers keep dying.

Ben   Then we'll find more mothers. Who knows...maybe there's even 1 on that plane.

[The scene shifts to Jack who is gently wiping Claire's face with a cold cloth while Charlie looks on. Juliet then comes running into camp carrying the medical case]

Charlie   Wait. What are you doing? She's not touching Claire. She's the one who did this to her.

Jack   She can help her, Charlie.

Charlie   Says who? Her? How can you even trust her?

Jack   I do trust her. You trust me?

[Charlie hesitates]

Jack   Do you trust me?

Charlie   Yeah.

Jack   Give us a couple of minutes here, okay?

[Charlie steps outside Claire's tent]

Jack   How long before this takes effect?

Juliet   We should see results in a few hours.

[Juliet prepares a syringe that contains gold fluid. Just as she is about to insert the needle into Claire, Jack grabs her hand which stops her]

Jack   Juliet? If this doesn't work...if something happens to her...I'm not gonna be able to protect you anymore. You'll be on your own.

Juliet   I'm already on my own, Jack.

[She inserts the needle into Claire's stomach and dispenses the gold fluid. The scene then shifts to Charlie who is sleeping and holding Aaron's and Claire's hands. Aaron is awake and playing, but Claire is asleep like Charlie. Claire stirs and she awakens Charlie and then herself]

Claire   What happened?

[Charlie and Claire smile at one another and the scene shifts to Juliet who is sitting on the beach. Jack walks up to her and sets blankets, pillows, and a tarp by her. He then sits down beside her]

Jack   I got a tarp, couple of blankets, airline pillows...It's not much, but it will get you started. Claire's awake.

[Juliet smiles]

Jack   There's a lean-to we've been using for shade, and everyone says it will be alright if you setup camp there for now.

Juliet   Thank you.

Jack   They're good people. They're willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Uh...eventually they're gonna need some answers.

Juliet   Why don't you? You keep talking about them. Why don't I ever have to explain myself to you?

Jack   You were there. You were standing right next to me when that submarine exploded. In that moment I saw it in your eyes. You want to get off this island more than anything else in the world. Makes you one of us.

[They smile at each other and watch the waves. The scene then shifts to Juliet stretching her tarp out and tying it to posts to construct a shelter. As she builds the structure she remembers a conversation with Ben. They are sitting at a table inside one of the Barracks homes]

Ben   Let's go over it again.

Juliet   I know what to do

Ben   Let's go over it again, just to be sure.

Juliet   I drag Austen out into the jungle, handcuff myself to her, then tell her I was gassed, just like she was.

Ben   If she catches you in the lie?

Juliet   I'll admit to it, tell her it was the only way to earn her trust.

Ben   Good. What then?

Juliet   They'll take me back to the beach.

[While Juliet continues to talk to Ben, the scene shows her continuing to tie up the shelter. As she does this she watches the survivors, including Jin and a man who appear to be discussing fishing, Hurley and Sun preparing food, and Desmond sitting at a table]

Juliet   I know you want me to go there, but after everything we've done to them...it's going to be a problem.

[The scene then shifts back to her memory showing us her and Ben sitting at the table]

Ben   We've activated the implant in Claire. She should be symptomatic within the next 48 hours. By the time you get to that camp, you'll have a nice big crisis to solve.

[While Juliet continues to talk to Ben, the scene shows her continuing to tie up the shelter. As she does this she watches the survivors, including Charlie, Jack, Claire and Aaron who are talking.]

Juliet   I'll need supplies.

Ben   Pryce is already on his way. He'll hide the case at Ethan's old drop point. Tell Jack that you can save her. He trust's you.

[The scene shows Jack walking and seeing Juliet build the shelter. He gives her a big smile and she returns it with one of her own. The scene then shifts back to her memory showing her sitting at the table]

Ben   Are you alright?

Juliet   I'm fine.

[Ben sets a gas mask on the table in front of Juliet]

Ben   See you in a week.

[Ben rolls off in his wheelchair, Juliet takes the mask, and the scene shifts back to Juliet who is still tying the tarp to the shelter. She watches Jack fill a bottle with water. The scene ends with her providing a rather knowing and somewhat evil stare. The last shot is of Juliet's hands as she is tightly tying the last knot on the tent making a figure eight with the rope before tightening it up.]
