[Flashback of Kate in a hotel.  She goes to a room, locks the door and opens a box,  looking at a wedding veil when Kevin knocks on the door]

Kevin Callis: Police. Open the door.

Kate: Uh... Everything's alright in here.

Kevin Callis: Ma'm, we have reason to believe someone extremely dangerous is in the motel. Were conducting a room to room search.

Kate: I'm alone officer.

Kevin Callis: Person could be holding you at gunpoint, forcing you to say that. Please open the door.

Kate: I don't think I should.

Kevin Callis: Ma'm, you have 3 seconds before I break this door down. 1, 2...

[Kate opens the door]

Kevin Callis: Hey. Want to get it on?

Kate: [Laughing] Hell yeah.

[Kate jumps into his arms then a shot of Kate awaking in her zoo cage while Sawyer throws rocks which trigger the cage alarm]

PA System: Warning. Warning.

Kate: Hey.

Sawyer: Hey yourself.

PA System: Warning.

Kate: Watcha doin'?

Sawyer: Throwing rocks.

PA System: Warning.

Kate: I thought you had to pull the lever.

Sawyer: I know how to get a damn fish biscuit.

Kate: Then get me one.

Sawyer: What you trying to keep me feeling productive.

[Shot of The Hydra where Juliet and Ben enter Jack's cell and he looks at x-rays]

Jack:You took these blood tests, made all the notations?

[Juliet nods her head yes]

Jack: How old are the x-rays?

Juliet: A week.

Jack: The tumor on your spine is borderline inoperable and at the rate it's going that borderline goes away in about 1 week.

Ben: Oh.

Jack: The OR we were in, is that fully equipped?

Juliet: Yes.

Jack: Anesthesia? Sterile?

Juliet: Yes.

Jack: You need to be in surgery yesterday.

Ben: Alright, then. Whatever you need, it's yours. I'm ready.

Jack: [Laughing] No, I think you misunderstood me. I didn't say I was gonna do it. I just wanted you to understand how you're gonna die. You think I believe you people? You think I trust you, that I'm gonna just do the surgery and hope that you let me go?!

Juliet: Jack.

[Jack throws the x-rays at ]

Jack: Don't!

Ben: Well Jack, I'm very disappointed in your decision.

Jack: Well Ben, at least you won't have to be disappointed for very long.

[Flashback of Kate and Kevin in bed]

Kate: You shouldn't have come here.

Kevin Callis: [Sarcastically] Yeah you're right. I've made a huge mistake and I'm just full of regret right now.

Kate: [Laughing] Seriously. It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.

Kevin Callis: It's bad luck to see the bride in her dress before the wedding. You my friend are naked. Have you tried it on?

Kate: I have to hold my breath to get the clasps even to clasp so... I'm waiting til the absolute last minute.

Kevin Callis: That's in about 12 hours you might want to get clasping. Hey, I know it's... it's been fast, but this is right. I know it's real and I love you, Monica.

Kate: I love you too, Kevin.

[They kiss then a flashback to Kate's cage as Pickett approaches only opens hers]

Danny Pickett: Come on. Time for work.

Kate: What about him?

Danny Pickett:" Well, he's got the day off.

Kate: Well if hes not working, neither am I.

Danny Pickett: Oh you're not, huh?

Sawyer: Just go freckles. Man wants to give me a day off, let him give me a day off.

Kate: No, Sawyer, we're a team. You break the rocks, I haul 'em.

Danny Pickett: Alright, fine. Lord knows I wouldn't want to break up the team.

[Shot of Desmond covering Mr. Eko's body with a sheet while Locke takes his cross]

Nikki: What happened to him?

Locke: Must've been an animal. Maybe one of the bears.

Nikki: Are we gonna carry him back?

Locke: No. Were gonna bury him here.

Desmond: Are we?

Locke: The people back at camp... there've been just a few too many funerals lately. Nobody needs to see him like this. I'll slip back to the beach and get a couple shovels.

Sayid: I'll come with you.

Locke: No, I'll be back in an hour...

Sayid: It's not safe to go alone, John.

Locke: I appreciate your concern.

[Shot of Locke and Sayid walking through the jungle]

Sayid: So, what killed Eko?

Locke: Folks back at the beach call it The Monster. I don't really have a name for it. You don't believe in monsters.

Sayid

I believe in what I can see... but obviously you have.

[Locke gives an affirmative gesture while swallowing bottled water]

Sayid: So why don't you tell me what you think it is?

Locke

Might be what brought us here.

Sayid: So you believe that this monster decided that Eko was supposed to die?

Locke: I believe Eko died for a reason. I just don't know what it is yet.

Sayid: Is that why you lied? Were not headed back towards the camp are we, John?

Locke: Sure we are. We just need to take a little detour first.

[Shot of Kate burning wood]

PA System: Compound breached. Compound breached.

[Picket yells into his walkie-talkie]

Danny Pickett: Where is she?

PA System: Compound breached.

Danny Pickett: Someone's on the grid. I want him on the ground and her too. If he moves, you shoot him. Yeah they're here.

Voice: Okay.

Danny Pickett: Did the doctor get out again? You sure? Well, does he know?

Voice: You got me.

Danny Pickett: How the hell did she get over here?

[Alex appears and begins shooting Others with rocks from a sling shot]

Alex: Get up! Come on, get up! Go!

Danny Pickett: Alex! Alex! What the hell do you think you're doing?

Alex: What you gonna shoot me?!

Danny Pickett: You know you're not supposed to be here, so let's just calm down...

Alex: What did you do to him, Danny?! Where is he?! I wanna talk to Ben.

Danny Pickett: Sure, that sounds like a great idea, so why don't we just lower our little sling...

Alex: Where is he, tell me?!

[Alex is attacked from behind and held though she continues to struggle]

Alex: No! Get off of me!

Danny Pickett: Get her out of here!

Other: What are you doing here?

Danny Pickett: Get her out of here!

Alex: Let me go! Listen! Whatever they say, don't believe them. They're gonna kill your boyfriend... just like they killed mine.

[Shot of Kate and Sawyer working while Juliet and Danny talk in the background]

Danny Pickett: I don't understand. It's supposed to be 2 weeks.

Juliet: Our schedule's been moved up.

Danny Pickett: What?

Juliet: [Muffled]

Danny Pickett: That's stupid.

Juliet: Not my call. It's the way it is, Danny.

Danny Pickett: Right.

[Juliet leaves and approaches Kate]

Juliet: I would like for you to put this on and come with me, please.

Kate: You think I'm gonna put a hood over my head cause you said please?

Juliet: No, Kate, I think you're going to put a hood over you head because the man standing behind me, the one who's burning a hole in my back, that man is going to kill Sawyer. But if you put this on and you come with me, there is something you can do for us that will save his life.

[Kate puts the hood over her head then a flashback of her in her wedding dress when there is a knock on the door]

Kate: Come in.

Suzanne: Oh, sweetheart. You're beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

Kate: How is it out there?

Suzanne: There are a lot of excited policemen. Dont worry, I've asked them not to shoot their guns in the air when you say, I do.

Kate: You know, mothers-in-laws aren't supposed to be so nice.

Suzanne: Um... Monica, I have something for you.

Kate: Suzanne, you shouldn't have.

Suzanne: My mother gave that to me on my wedding day. She told me some day I'd give it to my daughter, but since I have 4 boys... here.

[Suzanne hands Kate a gold locket and she puts it on]

Kate: It's perfect.

[Shot of Kate and Kevin's wedding]

Minister: Now, Kevin's been coming to the church here since he was about yea high. When I first met you Monica, I was struck by your honesty and devotion to Kevin. And when I asked him what he loved most about you, he said, cause what you see is what you get. That being said, you've got the rings, you've had your vows, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

[They kiss and then a shot of Kate in The Hydra being led to see Jack]

Juliet: ...step.

[Jack looks at Juliet who then removes the hood revealing Kate and the 2 stare at one another and stand close, but are separated by glass]

Juliet: I'll give you 2 some privacy.

Jack: Hey. You okay?

Kate: Yeah. You?

Jack: Yeah I'm... I'm great. Where are they keeping you?

Kate: Outside, in a cage.

Jack: Sawyer?

Kate: He's in a cage too. They're making us work.

Jack: Work? On what?

Kate: I don't know what it is, but it's big. We're hauling rocks and you...

Jack: Hey. Did they hurt you?

[Kate starts to cry]

Jack: Kate. Hey. Hey... it's gonna... it's gonna be alright. It's gon...

Kate: [Crying] Jack. You have to do it.

Jack: What?

Kate: [Crying] This thing that they told you to do, this operation. She said that if you do it, then that they would...

Jack: What did they do to you?

Kate: [Crying] Jack, I...

Jack: What did they do to you?!

Kate: [Crying] Nothing.

Jack: How did they get you to ask me?!

Kate: [Crying] Jack, please!

Jack: What did they offer you?!

Kate: [Crying] Nothing. They...

Jack: What are you doing here?!

Kate: [Crying] They're gonna kill Sawyer! God, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, but she said that if you do it and you do it soon they'll let us go.

Jack: And you believe them?

Kate: I have to. Jack, please.

Jack: We're done here.

Kate: Jack.

Jack: Hey!

[Shot shifts to Ben who is watching and listening on a closed circuit monitor]

Jack: We're done in here.

Kate: Jack, I'm sorry but... you have to do this. They said they couldn't...

Ben: Get her out of there.

Kate: Jack. Jack, please.

[Flashback of Kate shopping in a grocery store when Kevin calls her and she talks on her cell phone]

PA System: ...register 7. Checkout for register 7.

Kate: Hey you.

Kevin Callis: Hey, what's for dinner, gorgeous.

Kate: It's taco night.

Kevin Callis: You're making tacos?

Kate: Yes and you better like them.

Kevin Callis: Or what?

Kate: Or no desert. I'm leaving now, I'll be home soon.

Kevin Callis: I love you.

Kate: I love you, too.

[Shot of Kate running in the rain from the store to the phone booth where she makes a call and sets a timer so she'll know how long she has been talking]

Edward: Agent Mars.

Kate: It's me.

[Edward whistles to another officer to start a trace of the call]

Edward: Well, I'm glad. I realized this morning that it was the Feast of the Ascension and I was feeling bad. A lot of Holy Days have come and gone since you last called. I thought that you and I were friends.

Kate: I don't want to run anymore.

Edward: What's his name? Does he know who you are?

Kate: Edward, please. I know you don't want to spend the rest of your life chasing me. Please I love this guy. Just let me go.

Edward: I tell ya what. If you can really stay put, you really settle down, and I'll stop chasing you. But you and I both know that's not going to happen.

[The timer goes off and Kate slams down the phone then a shot of Kate being put back in her cage]

Juliet: Sawyer. You really care about him huh?

Kate: Where is he?

Juliet: I'm sorry you weren't able to help us Kate.

[Pickett leads Sawyer from the jungle back to his cage]

Danny Pickett: Forward Ford.

Juliet: Danny?

[Pickett hits Sawyer across the back of his head]

Juliet: Danny!

Sawyer: Ahh! Son of a bitch!

Danny Pickett: Right. Sorry Jules. You got anything you want to say to your girl, you best say it tonight.

[Pickett and Juliet leave]

Sawyer: And how was your day, honey?

[Shot of Locke presiding over Mr. Eko's funeral with Sayid, Desmond, Nikki, and Paulo]

Locke: When the hatch exploded, your prayer stick fell out of a tree right on top of me. So Sayid and I went out to get it cause it didn't feel right to bury you without it. I'd like to think that you died for a reason Mr. Eko. Just hope it's not to long before we find out what the heck it might be. Rest in peace Mr. Eko. Thank you for helping me find my...

[Locke starts to pound his stick into the ground to mark Mr. Eko's grave when he notices the writing, LIFT YOUR EYES AND LOOK NORTH and then a shot of Kate in her cage]

Kate: I saw Jack. They brought me in to see him. They want him to do surgery on Ben.

Sawyer: Who the hell's Ben?

Kate: Henry, the guy who brought us in. He's sick. And they say if he does it, they're gonna let us all go.

Sawyer: And you and me are what, bait?

Kate: Something like that.

Sawyer: At least the doc ain't dumb enough to do it.

Kate: I told him he had to.

Sawyer: Why the hell would you do something so stupid?!

Kate: To save your life.

Sawyer: My life don't need saving.

Kate: You want to die? Cause that's what's gonna happen. Pickett is just waiting for his chance. I've seen him look at you.

[Kate starts to climb out of the top of her cage]

Sawyer: Damn it, freckles stay put.

Kate: And you know what he's going to do. So don't pretend, like you don't care.

Sawyer: Get down freckles. We've already been through this.

Kate: Shut up, James. You don't want Jack to save your life, then you're gonna save your own. We're getting out of here now.

[Kate starts hitting the lock on Sawyer's cage lock with a rock]

Sawyer: Stop it. Damn it, Kate.

[Kate knocks the lock off and enters Sawyer cage]

Kate: Go! Get out of here! Run!

Sawyer: You're out of your cage. Why don't you run Kate? Cause me, I ain't running... cause their ain't no place to go.

Kate: What are you talking about?

Sawyer: We ain't on our island. Were on another island, like Alcatraz, couple miles off shore. So unless you're a mermaid or you got a boat, there ain't no point.

[Kate hits Sawyer in the chest]

Kate: When were you planning on telling me this?

Sawyer: Never.

Kate: Why not?! Why wouldn't you?!

Sawyer: Cause I wanted you to believe that we had a damn chance.

[Kate kisses Sawyer and they hold each other]

Sawyer:: What the hell was that for?

Kate: I don't know. I don't know.

[They continue kissing, remove their cloths, and make love then a flashback of Kate serving Kevin toast with a happy face on it for breakfast]

Kevin Callis: Very nice. Okay, now it's your turn. Look under your placemat.

Kate: What did you do?

Kevin Callis: Just look.

[Kate does and sees 2 tickets on an Oceanic Air flight]

Kate: What is it?

Kevin Callis: You know that honeymoon I've been promising you for 6 months? You are holding in your hand 2 tickets to Costa Rica. So get your passport ready baby? Hey? What's wrong?

Kate: Nothing. I just love you so much.

Kevin Callis: Come here.

[They kiss and hug and Kevin leaves for work then a shot of Sawyer and Kate in each others arms]

Sawyer: Let me ask you something, freckles. The day blockhead was beating on me and you said I love you. That was just... to get him to stop, right?

[Kate passionately kisses Sawyer]

Sawyer: I love you, too.

[Shot of Jack laying down in his cell in The Hydra when the speaker system squawks and awakens him]

Jack: Who is this? Hello? Hello.

Alex: Try it, the door.

[Jack does and it opens and he explores the hall, discovers the monitor observation room, finds and takes a gun, and notices Kate and Sawyer kissing and snuggling and Jack is then startled by Ben]

Ben: If it helps, I was surprised too. If I were a betting man, I would have picked her and you.

[Jack holds the gun to Ben's chest]

Jack: Shut up!

Ben: Well, I suppose this would be the proverbial nail in my coffin, wouldn't it?

Jack: Tomorrow.

Ben: Sorry.

Jack: Tomorrow morning, first thing. And everything I've mentioned before, the instruments, the anesthesia, and someone who can hold a damn clamp.

Ben: Yes. Of course.

Jack: I'll get it out... your tumor... and I'll keep you alive. But I need your word. I need what you promised me before. I need to get the hell off this island.

Ben: Done.

[Shot of Kate sleeping and a flashback to her using a pregnancy test kit which shows negative and she breaks down crying then later she carries a drink to Kevin]

Kate: Whatcha working on?

Kevin Callis: Just finishing some IRs and that fugitive recovery out of Tampa. This being a cop is just endless paperwork.

[Kate hands him the drink]

Kevin Callis: Thank you sweetie.

[Kevin takes a healthy drink]

Kate: What if I told you I was a fugitive? What if I told you I was on the run for blowing up my father and it was only a matter of time before they found out?

Kevin Callis: This isn't funny.

Kate: It's not a joke. I almost had a baby, Kev. Me, a baby. I can't do this. Taco night. I don't do taco night.

Kevin Callis: Okay. Calm down, Monica.

Kate: My name's not Monica. I love you, but I can't stay.

[Kate turns to leave and Kevin stands to help her, but finds he is very dizzy]

Kevin Callis: Oh, wait. Hang on. Whoa. Whoa.

Kate: Kev.

Kevin Callis: Somethings wrong with me.

Kate: I drugged you.

Kevin Callis: You what?

Kate: I had to. Otherwise, they would think you knew. People are gonna be asking a lot of questions and I didn't want you to lose your job.

[Kevin falls to the floor and passes out]

Kate: No, Kev.

[Crying, Kate puts the locket Suzanne gave her in Kevin's hand and kisses him goodbye then a shot of Jack and Juliet scrubbing for Ben's surgery]

Jack: This is gonna be a very tricky procedure. If I tell you to do something I need you to do it then and there. No questions asked. Is that understood?

Juliet: You may find this hard to believe, but I've always been very good at just following orders.

Jack: Is that a yes?

Juliet: Yes.

Jack: Good. Lets go.

[The 2 enter the OR where Ben is prepped and lying on a table]

Ben: You get nervous... before you do surgery?

Jack: I used to, but not any more. No.

Ben: Whatever happens, everything will be very different, won't it?

Jack: No doubt about it.

Ben: Juliet, did Alex ask about me?

Juliet: No. We took her home last night. I don't know where she is now.

Ben: Well, see ya on the other side. I'm ready.

Jack: I need you to count down from 20.

Ben: 20, 19, 18...

Jack: Scalpel.

[Jack begins an incision on Ben's back as Pickett looks on from above]

Danny Pickett: Let's go.

Jason (An Other): Ben's just gone into surgery

Danny Pickett: Ben's just put his life in the hands of one of them. Shephard wasn't even on Jacob's list.

[Shot of Pickett and Jason approaching to Sawyer and Kate's cages]

Kate: Sawyer. Sawyer

Danny Pickett: Well, well, well, lookie who got outta her cage. You 2 should have run when you had the chance. Let's go James.

Kate: Don't. Please, you don't have to do this.

Danny Pickett: He's coming with me and there's nothing you can do about it. Step away.

[Shot of Jack operating]

Jack: Give me another hemostat. Swab again. Clamp.

[Jack continues surgery, stops, hesitates, then makes an incision on Ben which causes his heart rate to drop]

Juliet: What happened? Is he okay?

Other: His blood pressures dropping. Should he be bleeding like that?

Jack: Nope. No he shouldn't.

[Jack slugs the Other and it knocks him out while a shocked Tom looks on from above]

Jack: Step away from the table.

Juliet: Jack.

Jack: Back away from the table! Now!

[Juliet backs away and Jack addresses Tom]

Jack: Can you hear me in there?

Tom : Yeah.

Jack: Good. I just made a small incision in Ben's kidney sack. Now if I don't stitch that back up in the next hour, he's dead. Now get in here and bring that walkie-talkie.

[Shot of Pickett, Sawyer, and Kate at the cages]

Danny PickettL: Step away.

Kate: No!

[A fight ensues with Sawyer punching Jason and struggling with Pickett who holds a gun to his throat while he chokes Pickett]

Kate: Stop!

[Kate is then held a gunpoint by Jason who has recovered from being punched by Sawyer]

Danny Pickett: You let go or I do her too. Let go.

Kate: Don't you let go. Don't even think about it Sawyer, you fight! No. No. Sawyer!

[Sawyer lets go and is hustled out of the cage]

Kate: No! Don't! No! Sawyer, please. You get your hands off of him.

Danny Pickett: Get on your knees.

[Pickett kicks Sawyer to his knees and holds the gun to the back of his head]

Kate: Please! I will do anything you want!

Danny Pickett: I want you to watch.

Sawyer: Close your eyes, freckles.

Kate: Stand up!

Sawyer: Close your eyes!

Kate: Don't you give up!

[Pickett cocks the gun and gets ready to shoot]

Kate: No! No! No.

Danny Pickett: This is for Colleen, you son of a bitch!

Kate: No.

[Suddenly Picketts walkie-talkie goes off and Tom is on the other end]

Tom : Danny, you there? Pick it up. Pick it up, Danny. Pick it up damn it.

Danny Pickett: What do you want?!

Tom : Are you anywhere near the cages?

Danny Pickett: Yeah, you can say that.

Tom : Give your walkie to Kate.

Danny Pickett: Why the hell would I do that?

Tom : Because if you don't, the doctor's gonna let Ben die.

Danny Pickett: What are you talking about? What's that beeping?

Tom : Just hand her the damn walkie, Danny! Do it! Just do it now!

Danny Pickett: Let go of her.

[Pickett hands the walkie-talkie to Kate]

Kate: Jack. Jack.

[Tom flips his walkie-talkie to Jack]

Jack: Kate, you have about an hour head start before they come after you.

Kate: Wait. Where are you? Where are you?

Jack: You remember what I told you on the beach, the day of the crash? Do you remember what story I told you when you were stitching me up? Do you remember it?!

Kate: Yes. Yes, I remember.

Jack: When you get safe, you radio me and you tell me that story.

Kate: Jack, please.

Jack: If I don't get a call from you in the next hour I'm gonna know something went wrong and he dies!

Kate: I can't leave without you!

Jack: Yes you are, go!

Kate: Jack, I can't!

Jack: Go now!

Kate: I can't!

Jack: Kate, damn it! Run!
