[Shot of Sawyer walking down the beach among the tents. He is looking for Kate. Several people bring the two halves of a ping pong table out from the jungle onto the beach]

Sawyer: Ping pong table? Where the hell that come from?

Hurley: Jin found it when he was out looking for firewood. We made legs for it...and paddles. Now all we need is a ball.

Sawyer: Found it?

Hurley: Must have landed in the jungle when the hatch exploded.

Sawyer: I thought the hatch collapsed?

Hurley Look dude, all I know is the sky turned purple. After that I don't ask questions. Just...make myself a salad and move on.

[Hurley begins walking away. Sawyer looks at Hurley's girth from behind]

Sawyer [Under his breath] Yeah, I can see that's working for ya. [Calling after Hurley] Hey! You seen Kate around?

Hurley [Turning toward Sawyer] Wow, she's not back yet? Hmmm.

[Hurley turns and walks to the ping pong table and begins talking to the other people]

Hurley You guys find anything we can use for a ball?

Man No.

[Sawyer sees Paulo walking up carrying a rolled up magazine that used to be Sawyers]

Sawyer Hey! That's my Guns and Ammo! Where the hell did you get it?

Paulo It was in the magazine stack. We share things now.

Sawyer Listen, Zorro, it was in my stuff! [Turning to address everyone on the beach] Stuff you all decided to have yourselves a little party with while you thought I was dead!

Paulo Listen, Hillbilly, if you want it that bad...take it.

[Paulo unrolls the magazine. Hidden inside is a roll of toilet paper. He hands both out to Sawyer]

Sawyer [Disgusted] Just keep it.

[Cut to island interior. Sayid leads the way through the jungle growth with a machete with Locke and Kate following and Danielle bringing up the rear. They come to a small cleared area beneath the trees]

Sayid We need to eat.

[Everyone drops their gear in the clearing]

Locke Are we still on course?

[Sayid pulls out a compass and checks. His expression is condescending]

Sayid We are still heading North on a bearing of 3-0-5. Yes.

Locke I'm sensing a lack of confidence.

Sayid We've been walking for 2 days...following a compass bearing provided by the carvings on a stick!

Locke And?

Sayid You really think we're just going to chance upon where The Others are?

Locke I don't know what we're going to chance on, Sayid, but...my bearing is the only bearing we've got.

Sayid I'm going to find some fruit. And then, John, we're going to have a rational conversation regarding our next move.

[Sayid walks into the jungle and begins picking fruit. He hears some sort of bell and stops. Picking up his rifle he walks over to the sound and sees a cow with a bell around its neck. He then hears someone whistle. The cow walks toward the sound of the whistle and Sayid follows. Sayid sees a blue ranch house with a satellite dish on top. In front of the house is a horse. The cow with the bell on its neck is being led into a small corral with other cows. The man leading the cow turns and heads into the house. It is the man with a patch over his eye that was seen on the television inside The Pearl station]

[Cut to beach at the ping pong table. Charlie, Hurley, Sun, Jin and Nikki are working on the table tying a makeshift net between the table posts and getting the table level. Sawyer walks up]

Sawyer Y'all looking for something like...this?

[Sawyer holds up a yellow practice ping pong ball similar to a wiffle ball]

Hurley Cool! A ball!

[Hurley reaches for the ball but Sawyer pulls it away]

Sawyer Uh, uh, uh. We need to do a little Quid Pro Quo first. I know I've been gone a while and y'all thought the general store was having a going out of business sale. But now I'm back, and I want what's mine.

Nikki Yeah, but it wasn't really yours to begin with.

Sawyer A, it was mine when I took it. B, who the hell are you?! And C, because I'm fair...I'm going to let you play me for it.

Hurley Play ping pong?

Sawyer That's right, Avalanche. You bastards put up your best player. One game. And when I crush them...y'all gotta bring me every piece of my stash back.

Hurley If you lose?

Sawyer I ain't gonna lose, but...if I do. Tell you what...name it.

[Jin and Sun converse in Korean]

Sawyer Oooh. Looks like Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon got something good. Lay it on me.

Sun No nicknames. If you lose...no nicknames for anyone. For a week.

Charlie Nice!

Sawyer You're on. Pick your player. I'll be back in an hour. Then, let the slaughter begin.

[Cut to jungle interior. Sayid is looking through binoculars at the blue house while Kate, Danielle and Locke crouch behind him]

Locke Are you sure it's completely isolated?

Sayid I've circled the house. There's nothing but jungle surrounding it. Here.

[Sayid hands the binoculars to Locke. Locke takes a look at the house through them at the satellite dish]

Locke That dish still work?

Sayid A satellite dish of that size would have broadcasting capability for thousands of miles. Danielle, you once mentioned a radio tower. Is this it?

Danielle I have never been here before.

Kate The man in the house? You said you've seen him before?

Sayid On a video feed from The Pearl station.

Kate So who is he?

Sayid Only one way to find out. We ask him.

[Sayid hands his rifle to Kate]

Kate What's this for?

Sayid If I'm unarmed he won't feel threatened. In case he is threatened you can cover me from here.

[Danielle turns and begins walking back into the jungle]

Kate Hey, where are you going?

Danielle I have no interest in that man inside the house. I have survived on the island precisely by avoiding these types of encounters. I'll wait for you by the stream, for those of you who survive.

[Danielle walks into the jungle. Sayid begins approaching the house. Flashback to Sayid as a chef in a restaurant cutting up vegetables]

Waiter Najeev! Najeev. [Subtitled] A man out front wants to see you.

[Sayid walks out to the table where a man is seated outdoors. The name of the restaurant can be seen: Le Portail D'Arabie]

Sami Did you cook this?

Sayid Yes. I did.

Sami Well, it's delicious. My name is Sami.

Sayid Najeev. Thank you.

Sami Please sit. Sit!

[Sayid sits at the table with Sami]

Sami So, where are you from Najeev?

Sayid I am Syrian.

Sami Please. [Subtitled] You are as much of an Iraqi as I am, young man.

Sayid What do you want from me?

Sami You're an excellent cook! And I, I have a restaurant. Much nicer than this place. Come take a look. If you like it I will hire you...at twice your pay here.

Sayid You're offering a stranger a job because of a single meal?

Sami I'm offering you a job because we are outsiders here. And because...uh, my chef just quit?

[Cut to jungle interior. Sayid is walking up to the blue house alone with his hands raised. He sees a horse that is still saddled as well as a gray cat. Sayid stops and stares at the cat. The man in the house shoots Sayid in the left shoulder with a rifle. Kate starts to run out to Sayid but Locke stops her]

Kate No, no, no! He's been hit! He's been hit!

Locke Not yet! You want to get shot too?

Mikhail Bakunin [Yelling out a window] I didn't cross the line! We had a truce! This is my land! You said I could stay here!

Sayid [Lying on the ground in great pain] I'm not...I'm not who you th...who you think I am! My name is Sayid Jarrah! I was on a plane that crashed here months ago!

Mikhail Bakunin A plane?

Sayid I'm unarmed, I swear!

Mikhail Bakunin Stay right there!

[Mikhail moves away from the window. Kate and Locke begin running up to Sayid. Mikhail comes out the door of the house. Locke shoots at Mikhail. . Mikhail raises his rifle to shoot but Kate shoots 2 rounds in Mikhail's direction]

Locke Drop the rifle! Drop it right now!

[Mikhail raises his hands and drops the rifle on the ground]

Locke Back up. Back up!

[Mikhail backs up and Locke retrieves Mikhail's rifle. Kate goes over to Sayid and helps him]

Kate Are you all right?

Mikhail Bakunin You really did crash here?

Sayid Over 40 of us, yes!

[Sayid hold his left shoulder. The wound is bleeding. Locke heads to the door of the house]

Locke I'll go in first, make sure it's ok.

Kate Who are you?

Mikhail Bakunin My name is Mikhail Bakunin. And I am the last living member of the DHARMA Initiative.

[Cut to blue house interior. Mikhail and Kate are helping Sayid into the house through a large bay doorway]

Kate Watch your step.

[Mikhail leads Sayid over to a couch]

Mikhail Bakunin Please...sit. Here...let me.

[Mikhail looks at Sayid's bullet wound]

Sayid You've had experience...treating...gunshot wounds?

Mikhail Bakunin I spent some time in Afghanistan. I had experience with field medicine...in the Soviet Army. [Speaking to Kate] In the kitchen, on the top shelf, is a medical kit. Will you bring it please?

[Kate looks at Sayid questioningly]

Sayid It's all right, Kate.

[Kate goes to retrieve the kit]

Sayid How did you get here?

Mikhail Bakunin I almost don't know where to begin.

Sayid Why don't you begin with the DHARMA Initiative.

[Mikhail gets some alcohol to clean the wound. Locke begins looking around the house]

Mikhail Bakunin I grew up in Kiev and joined the Soviet Army. I was stationed in a listening post in Vladivostok. After the cold war, after we lost the cold war, my unit was decommissioned. I was dismissed from my life in the military. And, after years of conducting...unpleasant actions against our enemies, I found myself wanting to do something good. So I replied to a newspaper advertisement.

Sayid  An advertisement?

Mikhail Bakunin Would you like to save the world? it read.

[Kate looks around the house and opens a refrigerated cabinet. Inside are large cuts of beef]

Mikhail Bakunin That's how I met them...The Initiative. They're very secretive, very rich and very smart.

Sayid So when did you come to the island?

[Locke continues looking through the house. On a table are electronics parts, circuit boards, and old computer parts.

Mikhail Bakunin 11 years now. I liked computers, communications equipment...and being alone like a lighthouse keeper. So they put me in this station. They called it "The Flame".

Sayid What's the purpose of The Flame?

Mikhail Bakunin To communicate with the outside world, of course.

[Locke walks into a room with a wall full of lights, knobs and buttons. On a desk is a computer. On the computer monitor can be seen a blue chessboard with a red box in the middle with yellow writing. The writing reads "READY TO PLAY? Y/N". The chess game has a computer voice that speaks]

Chess Game  Ready To Play?

[Locke looks closer at the chess game]

Chess Game  Ready To Play?

[Locke presses the letter "Y" on the keyboard. The chess game restarts with a freshly set up board]

Chess Game  Your Move.

[Cut to Mikhail opening the medical kit in front of Sayid]

Sayid What happened to the DHARMA Initiative?

Mikhail Bakunin They're all dead, of course. They foolishly initiated a war against the Hostiles. A "Purge" they called it.

Sayid And how did you survive this purge?

[Mikhail sterilizes a small pair of forceps using a lighter]

Mikhail Bakunin By not participating in it. I told you...I like being alone.

Sayid And the Hostiles allowed you to stay here?

Mikhail Bakunin:   After it was over, 4 men appeared in the yard. They offered a truce. They said to imagine a line that extended all the way around the valley. As long as I did not cross it...I would be left alone.

[Mikhail begins digging for the bullet in Sayid's arm. Sayid grimaces but says nothing]

Mikhail Bakunin Then, they took 2 cows and I never saw them again.

Kate They weren't interested in the satellite dish in the yard?

Mikhail Bakunin Why would they be? It hasn't functioned for years.

Sayid Who are they? These Hostiles?

Mikhail Bakunin I do not know. But they were here for a long time before we were. A very long time.

[Mikhail digs deeper into Sayid's arm]

Sayid Aghhh!

[Flashback to Sayid walking down a street in Paris, the Eiffel Tower in the background. He enters the Le Jardin Croissant Fertile restaurant owned by Sami. Middle Eastern music is playing softly. Sayid walks up to a table full of men]

Sayid   I am looking for Sami.

Man [Yelling] Sami!

[Sami enters from a back room]

Sami   Najeev! I'm so glad you came. [Indicating the restaurant] What do you think? Eh, it's a simple place, as you can see, but we have good customers.

[A woman walks up]

Sami   Ah, here's my wife. She's in charge of the kitchen. Amira, come meet Najeev.

[Amira shakes Sayid's hand. Her sleeves pull up and her arms are badly scarred]

Sayid   Pleasure to meet you.

[A man grabs Sayid's arm]

Sami   [Speaking to Amira] Are you sure this is him?

Amira   Yes.

Sayid    I don't know who you think I am...

[The man holding Sayid's arm punches him in the stomach. Sayid hits him back and then is attacked by all of the men sitting at the table. They overpower Sayid and subdue him on the floor. Sami comes over and kicks Sayid in the head, knocking him unconscious. Cut to Mikhail pulling the bullet from Sayid's arm. Sayid is sweating, breathing hard and in pain. Mikhail then takes a hooked needle and thread and begins sewing up the bullet hole. A cat is seen pawing at a carpet]

Mikhail Bakunin [Speaks to the cat in Russian]...Nadia!

Sayid What did you just say?

Mikhail Bakunin I told Nadia to be polite because you are my guests.

Sayid   Nadia?

Mikhail Bakunin Mmm. After Nadia Comaneci, the greatest athlete the world has ever known.

[Mikhail indicates a poster of Nadia Comaneci on the wall]

Mikhail Bakunin We have the same birthday.

[Mikhail ties off the suture]

Mikhail Bakunin [Says a couple of words in Russian] Now, excellent work if I say myself.

Sayid Thank you, Mikhail.

Mikhail Bakunin Perhaps...I can begin to earn your forgiveness by offering some iced tea. I will also check on your friend.

[Mikhail walks into the room where Locke is playing chess. Locke loses the game just as Mikhail opens the door]

Mikhail Bakunin Heh, don't waste your time. For 10 years I have tried to defeat that game.

Chess Game   Ready To Play?

Mikhail Bakunin   But it was programmed by 3 grand masters. And...it cheats.

Locke Hmmm.

Chess Game Ready To Play?

Locke Well...I've played a lot of computers and I'm...pretty sure they don't know how to cheat. That's what makes being human so...distinctly...wonderful.

[Locke starts a new game of chess as Mikhail leaves]

Chess Game Your Move.

[Cut to Kate and Sayid on the couch. Kate is wrapping Sayid's arm with a bandage. Mikhail walks by and goes to the kitchen]

Sayid [Speaking softly] What's wrong.

Kate [Speaking softly] It just...it doesn't make any sense. Why would they let him stay here...with all this stuff, all this equipment.

Sayid Actually, it makes perfect sense.

Kate What are you talking about?

Sayid The reason they let him stay here is because he is not DHARMA. He is one of them.

Kate He shot you and you just let...why are we still sitting here?

Sayid   We are sitting here, Kate, because I am certain he is not alone.

[Cut to beach at the ping pong table. A crowd has gathered. Sawyer is bouncing the ball on the paddle at one end of the table]

Sawyer So! You really the number 1 draft pick, Grimace?

Hurley Yep. Are we playing with the Mercy Rule?

Sawyer Mercy Rule?

Hurley Yeah, like, if I'm up 11 - 0 then I, you know, automatically win?

Sawyer You're going to go up 11 - 0?

Hurley No I mean...either one of us.

Sawyer Sure. We can have a Mercy Rule.

Hurley You want to volley for serve?

Sawyer I'll tell you what. Be my guest.

Charlie Take him down, Hurley.

[The entire crowd begins rooting and cheering for Hurley]

Nikki Come on Hurley.

Hurley 0 serving 0.

[Hurley hits a fast serve far off to Sawyer's right. Sawyer jumps for the ball and returns it to Hurley's middle. Hurley backhands the ball and it zips by Sawyer on the left]

Charlie Yes!

[The crowd cheers and claps. Sawyer looks as though he realizes he has been conned]

Hurley 1 nothing.

[Cut to The Flame station house interior. Mikhail is carrying a tray of glasses and a pitcher of yellow tea. He places the tray on the table]

Mikhail Bakunin I grow the tea myself...so pardon its bitterness.

Sayid Any tea is good tea.

Kate You know how long its been since we've seen ice?

Sayid I noticed a series of thick wires as I walked around the station.

Mikhail Bakunin This is the hub. But they go underground to various stations all over the island.

Sayid And these cables...do any of them run into the ocean?

Mikhail Bakunin

Yes. There is an underwater beacon that emits sonar pings to...help guide in the vessels.

Sayid By "vessels" you mean submarines?

Mikhail Bakunin Yes. The Initiative used one to bring us here. But I can imagine only that the Hostiles have either destroyed or commandeered it by now.

Sayid That explains how they were able to get around my position and capture our sailboat.

Mikhail Bakunin You have a sailboat?

Sayid Until we lost it to your Hostiles.

Mikhail Bakunin That's very unfortunate.

Sayid Well, at least we were able to kill one of them.

[The room gets quiet and tension builds]

Mikhail Bakunin Why are we continuing to play this little game? When we all know it has moved to the next stage.

[Mikhail jumps up and throws the pitcher of tea at Sayid who ducks in time but Mikhail kicks Sayid in the chest, knocking him over the couch. Kate jumps up and Mikhail backhands her, knocking her to the floor. Sayid gets up and is hit in his wounded shoulder, then in the face twice. Sayid recovers and puts a one-armed beat down on Mikhail, throwing him to the floor. Kate grabs the rifle and slams the butt of it into Mikhails head, knocking him unconscious. Locke belatedly comes out of the computer room with his handgun drawn but the action is over]

Sayid Get some rope!

[Flashback to Sayid chained to a floor in a stockroom. He awakens to the sound of Sami entering the room carrying a bowl of water and a black bag. Sayid sits up while Sami drops the bag and sets the bowl on the floor in front of Sayid]

Sami Drink.

[Sayid grabs the bowl and gulps the water down]

Sami You were a torturer were you not? In the Republican Guard? Do you not recognize one of your victims? Do you not recognize the woman that you tortured? Do you not recognize my wife?!

Sayid No I've never seen...you've confused me with someone else.

Sami Amira was arrested for harboring an enemy of the state. She was held for 3 months while she was questioned. Her arms bear the scars of those questions. So I assure you Najeev, I am not confused!

Sayid My name is not Najeev.

Sami Hmm.

Sayid I'm Sayid Jarrah. I was in the Republican Guard. And yes I was an interrogator, but I have never seen your wife. Maybe she saw me at the same facility, but I do not know her! I can remember every face of every person I've interrogated...

Sami

She remembers your face. She remembers it so well that she recognized it from a mere glimpse...when we walked by the restaurant where you worked!

Sayid What do you want from me?

Sami I want you to admit to what you did. And if you don't, you will leave this room in that bag.

[Sayid looks at the bag sitting on the floor. Cut to Sayid and Kate tying up Mikhail]

Kate How do you know he isn't alone?

Sayid

The horse outside is still saddled and the stirrups are set up for someone much shorter than this man.

Locke You think the others sent someone to keep him company?

Sayid They sent someone out here because they lost communications.

Locke Maybe when the sky turned purple.

Sayid That would be my guess.

Locke Well, if there's someone else here they're hiding pretty good. I checked every nook and cranny of...this...place...

[Sayid lifts the carpet revealing a trap door in the floor]

Sayid Not every nook and cranny, John.

[Flashback to Sayid who awakens as Sami enters the room again carrying a folding chair and a long pipe. His wife Amira enters the room behind him and sits on the chair. Sayid is still in chains]

Sami Are you ready to tell me the truth?

Sayid I have told you the truth. I do not know you.

[Sami punches Sayid in the face knocking him to the floor]

Sami You tortured her.

Sayid No. I would never touch a woman!

[Sami punches Sayid in the face knocking him to the floor again while Amira looks on in shock and disgust]

Sayid You think this will do any good...that this will make me confess to something I didn't do?

Sami

My wife confessed to something that she didn't do. She confessed when you poured a pot of boiling oil over her arms...

Sayid No I did not. You have the wrong...

[Sami punches Sayid in the face knocking him to the floor again]

Sami Admit it! Admit it!

Sayid I can not admit to something I didn't do.

[Sami shoves him onto the ground, reaches for the pipe but is stopped when Amira grabs it too]

Amira That is enough for today.

[Sami lets go of the pipe and turns to Sayid]

Sami Then I will see you tomorrow.

[Sami leaves and Amira stands and stares at Sayid. She then turns and leaves. Cut to The Flame, blue house interior. Sayid and Kate descend a ladder through the hidden hatch. Sayid has a flashlight and gun while Kate has a lantern. The scene shifts to the upper portion of The Flame where the chess game can be seen on the computer monitor]

Chess Game Your Move.

[Locke hears the computer from the other room where he is standing guard over an unconscious Mikhail]

Chess Game Your Move.

[The scene shifts to Kate and Sayid below. They investigate and notice several charges of C4 wired on the wall just below the ceiling]

Kate What is it?

Sayid C4. Explosive. The whole place is wired.

Kate Why?

Sayid I don't know.

[The scene shifts back above as Locke continues to be tempted to play the computer chess game]

Chess Game Your Move.

[Locke leaves the unconscious Mikhail behind, enters the computer room and sits down in front of the computer and begins typing. Then scene shifts back below where Sayid breaks into a storage room. Several boxes are seen on shelves as well as numerous volumes of what appear to be DHARMA manuals. Sayid looks at some and they are labeled DI 90M1654-21644, DHARMA Initiative, Food Drop Protocol and DI 90M1664-21644, DHARMA Initiative, Operations Manual. The scene shifts back to Locke who is still playing computer chess]

Chess Game Your Move.

[Locke makes a move. The computer screen signals "CHECKMATE" and "You Win" and plays music. Locke smiles and seems genuinely overjoyed. The screen then flickers and Marvin Candle appears]

Marvin Manual override achieved. For pallet drop enter 2-4. For station uplink enter 3-2. For mainland communication enter 3-8.

[Locke presses 3 and 8 on the keyboard]

Marvin The satellite dish is inoperable. Communications are down. For sonar access enter 5-6.

[Locke presses 5 and 6 on the keyboard]

Marvin Sonar is inoperable. Has there been an incursion on this station by the Hostiles? If so, enter 7-7.

[Locke begins to press the first 7 when Mikhail surprises him from behind him and holds a knife to his neck]

Mikhail Keep your voice low and your hands in front of you.

[The scene shifts down below where Kate notices racks of DHARMA Flame Station jumpsuits. She examines them and is attacked from behind by another person. They struggle and Kate is beat to the ground. The other person grabs her gun and then Sayid appears behind them]

Sayid Stop right there. Put the gun on the ground. Now.

[Kate gets up and Sayid turns to walk in front of the woman who is revealed to be Ms. Klugh. When Kate realizes who it is she punches her in the face staggering Ms. Klugh toward the floor]

Sayid What are you doing?

Kate It's her!

[Kate picks Ms. Klugh up and punches her in the face again knocking her down. Sayid grabs Kate to restrain her]

Kate She was there! She was at the dock! She was there when we were kidnapped. She knows where Jack is.

[Sayid turns and puts the gun to Ms. Klugh's chest]

Sayid Are there any more of you here?

[Ms. Klugh stares at Sayid and does not answer]

Sayid Lets take her upstairs. [Yelling] John! We're coming up!

[They go back upstairs, but do not see Locke]

Sayid John!

Locke [Calling from outside] Out here!

[Pushing Ms. Klugh in front of them Sayid and Kate head outside]

Sayid Move.

[Outside, Sayid and Kate hold Ms. Klugh at gunpoint. Mikhail stands several yards away holding Locke at gunpoint]

Mikhail This is simple. Send her over to me and I will release him and we all go our separate ways.

Locke Don't listen to him...

Mikhail Shut your mouth.

Locke If he was going to kill me I'd be dead already.

Mikhail Shut your mouth!

Sayid Listen to me.

Locke Sayid, do not let her go.

Mikhail I will execute you right here.

Locke He's not gonna do it!

Sayid Be quiet John!

Locke I'm the only thing keeping him alive.

Mikhail I swear to you...

Ms. Klugh Mikhail.

Sayid Calm down everyone!

Ms. Klugh Mikhail! [Says something in Russian]

Mikhail [Says something in Russian]

Locke Sayid.

Sayid I'll handle this John.

Kate John.

Ms. Klugh [Says something in Russian]

Mikhail [Says something in Russian]

Ms. Klugh [Says something in Russian]

Locke Don't let her talk to him!

Ms. Klugh [Says something in Russian]

Sayid Mikhail!

Ms. Klugh [Says something in Russian]

Sayid Stop!

Ms. Klugh Just do it, Mikhail!

[Mikhail pushes John out of the way and points the gun at Ms. Klugh while Kate is attempting to move forward]

Mikhail [Says something in Russian]

[Mikhail pulls the trigger and shoots Ms. Klugh in the heart, killing her]

Sayid John!

[Locke reacts and grabs Mikhail's gun. While they struggle a second shot is fired in the air, Mikhail head butts Locke, and Sayid races forward and hits Mikhail in the face with the butt of his rifle knocking him to the ground. He then points his weapon at Mikhail]

Mikhail Finish it! Kill me.

[Sayid pulls the rifle back and turns away. Cut to beach at Sawyer's tent. Sawyer is trying to repair a broken pair of glasses when Hurley walks up to him]

Hurley Sorry I beat you so bad, dude.

Sawyer Sorry you hustled me, you mean.

Hurley

My mom had a table in her basement and I played a lot at the insti...ti...place I...hung out for a while. I got kinda good.

Sawyer Well hurray for you.

Hurley Doesn't look like that last slam caused any long term damage to your forehead. And you got 3 points which is better than 0...

Sawyer Something you want?

Hurley I came to give you back some of your stuff.

[He throws down 3 magazines down to where Sawyer is sitting. The magazine on top is a Playpen]

Hurley Cause uh...you know, you're the kinda guy that needs stuff.

Sawyer You a shrink now?

Hurley She'll be ok dude. Kate? I know you're worried about her. She's with Locke and Sayid. She's gonna be fine.

Sawyer Yeah, well, thanks for the pep talk Lu...

Hurley Uh uh dude. It's Hurley. Hugo if you want.

[Sawyer stands]

Sawyer Get bent, Hugo.

[Sawyer walks away. Cut to Locke playing chess at the computer and winning again. Scene shifts to the other room where Kate is packing things including ammunition]

Kate [Yelling] You ready to go Locke?!

Locke I'll be there in a minute.

[Scene shifts back the computer room where Locke is alone. He is watching Marvin Candle on the computer again]

Marvin Sonar is inoperable. Has there been an incursion on this station by the Hostiles? If so, enter 7-7.

[Scene shifts to Sayid who is just outside The Flame station at night and is holding a gun to a handcuffed Mikhail. They are walking towards the jungle]

Sayid [Yelling] Danielle?! Danielle?! [Speaking to Mikhail] Tell me something? Were you ever a member of the DHARMA Initiative? Or was everything you said a lie?

[They keep walking and Mikhail says nothing]

Sayid Of course I'm wasting my breath.

Mikhail I was never a member, but everything else I told you was true. I moved into this station after the purge.

Sayid The purge in which a group of scientists attacked your people?

Mikhail Believe what you want, but that is what happened.

[Danielle steps into view beside Sayid]

Danielle Your friends...did he kill them?

Sayid No. They're collecting whatever may be useful from the farmhouse. And now we have our ticket to where the others live...where we'll find your daughter...and Jack. And finally perhaps, a way home.

Mikhail There is nothing you could do to me that would make me lead you there.

Sayid I didn't say you were our ticket...did I?

[Sayid bends down and takes a sheet of paper from his satchel]

Sayid This is a map showing electrical and data cabling...running from the flame here [Taps the map] to a place called the barracks here [Points to the map]. It's comprised of houses and dormitories, with water and power...large enough to accommodate an entire community. Sounds like a place well worth visiting, don't you think?

Mikhail There will come a time when your guard is down...and when it is, I will not hesitate a moment before killing you. You should know this before you make...

Danielle [Interrupting] He's making an excellent point. You have a map. Why keep him alive?

[Mikhail smiles at Sayid in agreement. Flashback to a beaten and bloody Sayid still chained to the floor. He awakens to the sound Amira entering the room. She sits in the folding chair. She is holding a cat that looks exactly like Mikhail's cat, Nadia]

Amira After my husband and I first arrived to Paris, I was afraid to ever leave our apartment. So I would stare out the window into the alley and I would see this cat looking for scraps. One day, some children came into the alley and trapped it in a box. I watched them light firecrackers...and drop them in the box. I could hear him howl from 3 stories above. So finally, I had a reason to leave my apartment. I rescued this cat and I brought him home. Sits with me when I read. Sleeps with me. And he purrs. But, every once in a while, he will bite me or scratch me. He does this because sometimes he forgets that he is safe now. So I forgive him when he bites me because I know what it is like to never feel safe. And that is because of you. So today...I ask only one thing of you. I ask you now that you show me the respect of acknowledging what you did to me. That it was you who questioned me. That tortured me. [Crying] And that you remember me.

Sayid I remember you. I remember your face. Your face has haunted me ever since I left Iraq. [Crying] I am sorry. I am so sorry for what I did to you. I'm... [Whispering and crying] so...sorry...

Amira [Crying] I forgive you. When my husband returns, I will tell him, "I made terrible mistake", that it was not you...and he will release you.

Sayid [Crying] Why? Why are you letting me go?

Amira [Crying] We are all capable of doing what those children did to this cat...but I will not do that. I will not be that.

[Amira stands and leaves the room. Cut to jungle outside The Flame. Sayid is staring at Mikhail]

Danielle We should kill him Sayid. He already told us that he would kill us.

Sayid No. He's my prisoner. I will decide his fate.

[Kate and Locke walk up to the group]

Sayid [Speaking to Locke] I can see you didn't find anything worth taking.

Locke Actually, I just played that silly chess game again. [To Mikhail] And now, I realize why you didn't want me to beat it.

Sayid Meaning what?

[The Flame station explodes and is completely destroyed. Everyone hits the ground]

Sayid What have you done John?! That place was our one hope of communication with the outside world!

Locke The computer said that if there was an incursion by the Hostiles, I should enter 7-7. So, I entered 7-7.

Sayid [Angry] We should go. If anyone's around, this explosion is going to attract their attention.

[They start to leave and Sayid hears a stirring in the bushes. He shines the flashlight in that direction and it is the cat, Nadia]
