    LATIN

Translation: "Something for something", a more-or-less equal exchange or substitution of goods or services. English speakers often use the term to mean "a favor for a favor" and the phrases "what for what", "give and take", "tit for tat" have similar meanings.

This phrase comes up when Sawyer uses it to get back some of his stash that the losties have scavenged when Sawyer was captured by the Others.  Sawyer has the ping pong ball they need to play and they have his stash items.  So he wants to do a little quid pro quo to get it back.

Sawyer holds up a yellow practice ping pong ball similar to a wiffle ball]

        Hurley Cool! A ball!

[Hurley reaches for the ball but Sawyer pulls it away]

Sawyer Uh, uh, uh. We need to do a little Quid Pro Quo first. I know I've been gone a while and y'all thought the general store was having a going out of business sale. But now I'm back, and I want what's mine.
