In (EX1) Sun gives Jin a handmade book with some English words spelled phonetically in Korean to help him on his journey. This seems to make Jin softer towards Sun and they reuinite.

When Jin, Michael, Walt and Sawyer leave on the raft in (EX3), Sun had written a few words in English so he would be able to function on the raft.
