Jack diagnoses Boone with compartment syndrome which is causing blood to pool in his leg. Jack decides amputation is the only way to save Boone. He dismisses the idea of using the axe, and orders Michael to bring him a large metal cargo container with a sliding door, dubbed fondly by fans the Amputron 4200. Sun objects to its use, but after a few test swings on the door (which must have a very sharp edge; we shudder to think of the lawsuits the manufacturer must face from dismembered airline workers) Jack and Michael position Boone's leg in the Amputron. Boone comes to, just as Jack is ready to let the door fly and begs Jack to let him die.

Mini Mash Unit

Jack has his own mash unit set up in the caves and has his nurse Sun to help. They both use it for the first time trying to save Boone, but alas, it is a hopeless effort.

Sea Urchin Needle - Blood Transfusion Needle

Jack decides Boone would do better if he had a blood transfusion, but alas, we have nothing sharp and hollow to use as a needle. Sun saves the day by coming up with a sea urchin spine which is hollow and sharp enough to pierce a noodle.
