After Michael and Sawyer drifted back to the island, they literally run into Jin. He has his arms trussed behind him. He yells that it's the "others". Sawyer, Michael and Jin are beaten with a club and dragged off the beach into the jungle and thrown into a pit. The pit has a bamboo top and is tied off so it can't be opened from the inside.
