Bonanza - Corny Concerto - Father Knows Best - Seinfeld

Cast of Bonanza, Hoss is on the bottom right

    Bonanza

Sawyer uses the name 'Hoss' for Pickett, a reference to the character on the TV show Bonanza.

    Quote:

[Pickett in a rage goes to Sawyer's cage.]

SAWYER: Hey, hey hey hey hey. Take it easy, Hoss. Take it easy. [Pickett drags him out of the cage and throws him to the ground.] Take it easy!

Bonanza premiered in 1959. Set in Nevada, in the 1860s, Bonanza chronicled the adventures of the Cartwright family who owned a large ranch - The Ponderosa. Dan Blocker played the role of Eric "Hoss" Cartright from 1959 - 1972. Read more at Fiftiesweb.com

Corny Concerto / Blue Danube - Cartoon

The Others have left a television on the other side of the glass in Jack's cell, and they are playing cartoons for him. The cartoon that is visible is the Merrie Melodies's parady of Fantasia, Corny Concerto--specifically, The Blue Danube. (The Blue Danube begins at 4:16 on the You Tube clip.)

A Corny Concerto is a 1943 Merrie Melodies cartoon made by Warner Bros. The cartoon was directed by Bob Clampett and written by Frank Tashlin. It features music that was composed by Johann Strauss, and was intended as a parody of Disney's Fantasia and so displays a great degree of timing with the music.

Father Knows Best Cast

    Father Knows Best

Cassidy tells Sawyer that he's a daddy to which he replies "You think I'm going to take one look at this picture and turn into Father Knows Best?"

This classic TV show represented the ideal American family.  Father Knows Best, the successful series about the life of a middle class American family in the 1950s, starred Robert Young and Jane Wyatt as Jim and Margaret Anderson, with Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray, and Lauren Chapin as their children, Betty, Bud, and Kathy. The series lasted from 1954-1960 and produced 203 episodes.

Cast of Seinfeld

    Seinfeld

Sawyer calls fellow prisoner Munson "Costanza", referencing the character from the culture pop show "Seinfeld".  Likely the reference was made because the two are similar in looks and build.

George Costanza is neurotic, self-loathing, and dominated by his parents, Frank and Estelle. He has been best friends with Jerry Seinfeld since their middle school years.

George exhibits a number of negative character traits, among them stinginess, dishonesty, insecurity, and neurosis. Many of these traits form the basis for his involvement in various plots, schemes, and awkward social encounters. Episode plots frequently feature George manufacturing elaborate deceptions at work or in his relationships in order to gain or maintain some small or imagined advantage.
