In Numbers we find out that Hurley comes from a Catholic family. Their home has many decorative religious items.
FATHER AGUILLAR
At Grandpa Tito's funeral Father Aguillar was struck by lightning.
Hurley: "You're going to like this one, ma. I mean, after everything you've been through? Like grandpa. (Carmen crosses herself and says a prayer) And then at the funeral, Father Aguillar getting struck by lightning? Man, that was a freak storm...."
CURSES
Hurley tells his mother that he thinks the numbers are cursed:
HURLEY: "I'm just saying you deserve something good to happen. You know, eve since I won the lottery it seems like we've had nothing but bad luck. Like, I don't know, like the money's cursed or something."
CARMEN (slugging Hurley in the arm): "That's blasphemy. You know very well we're Catholic. We don't believe in curses."
Since this a book in the bible it should be mentioned. Named because of the census taken at the beginning of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness of Sinai and at the end of their journey before crossing the river Jordan. It's also interesting that Numbers is a Hurley-centric episode and Hurley is the one that took the census of the lostaways in Raised By Another.
