Following the hatch implosion, Locke awakens to find that he can not speak. He also decides he needs to "speak" to the Island. To do so, he builds a sweat lodge, and mixes together some sort of concoction in a coconut. Inside the sweat lodge Locke builds a steam pit, eats his island goo and waits for the visions to come. And soon, Boone arrives to lead him on his dream-journey.
Charlie has a bit of fun at Locke's expense while he's setting up for his island vision.
CHARLIE: What's that? You're not taking drugs are you, John? I only ask because of the strict zero tolerance policy you've enacted, and I wouldn't want you to have to start punching yourself in the face.

In Locke's flashback, he lives on a commune farm and they are growing more the just a family.

Charlie tells Hurley, " You know, when I used to get high, I'd watch nature programs on the Beeb. Polar bears are meant to be quite clever. Very clever. They're like the Einsteins of the bear community." As they trek off to find and save Eko.
