• Kate is worried about Jack following an attack by the monster:

KATE: Where the hell is Jack?

CHARLIE: I don't know!

KATE: You see him?

CHARLIE: Yeah, he pulled me up!

KATE: Where is he?

CHARLIE: I don't know!

KATE: How can you not know?

CHARLIE: We got separated! Look, I... I fell down, and he, he came back for me, that thing was just...

KATE: Did you see it?

CHARLIE: No. No! But it was right there. We were dead! I was. An-And then Jack came back, and he, he pulled me up. I don't know where he is.

[Kate looks around.]

KATE: We have to go back for him.

CHARLIE: Go back? There? Kate, there's a certain gargantuan quality about this thing.

KATE: Then don't come.

• Locke protests when the tour guide tells him that he can not go on the walkabout:

AGENT: Look, unfortunately it is an issue for our insurance company. I can't keep the bus waiting any longer. It isn't fair to the other people.

LOCKE: Hey, don't talk to me about fair.

AGENT: I can get you on a plane back to Sydney on our dime. That's the best I can do.

LOCKE: No. I don't want to go back to Sydney. Look I've been preparing for this for years. Just put me on the bus, right now, I can do this.

AGENT: No, you can't.

• Kate asks Sawyer for a battery:

KATE: It must be exhausting.

SAWYER: What's that?

KATE: Living like a parasite -- always taking, never giving.

SAWYER: Well, you got me pegged, don't you?

KATE: I get it now. You don't want off this island because there's nothing for you to go back for. Nobody you miss. And no one misses you.

• Locke urges Jack to return to the caves:

LOCKE: Jack. Jack. Good thing you were going in a circle. Not much of a search grid, but we never would have found you otherwise.

KATE [to Jack]: Did you find anything?

JACK: No.

LOCKE: You should go back to the caves -- Sayid's leg.

JACK: I dressed Sayid's leg. You found me, we can find Charlie and Claire. Now, do we have a trail to follow or not?

LOCKE: Jack, this was my fault.

JACK: What?

LOCKE: I hunted with Ethan. I spent time with him. I never sensed anything off. But for everything that I know about hunting, tracking -- whoever he is, he knows more. If we catch up with him, I don't want anything to happen to the only trained physician on the island. So go back, be the doctor. Let me be the hunter.

JACK: Can we go now?

LOCKE: Follow me.

• Boone begins to worry that they're lost:

BOONE: Are we lost?

[Shot of Boone and Locke in the dark hiking up a rocky area.]

LOCKE: No, Boone, we're not lost.

BOONE: Sorry, it's just it don't see how you can still be following this trail. I think we should go back.

LOCKE: Don't you feel it?

BOONE: Feel what?

LOCKE: It.

BOONE: Alright, John. I'm going to follow the strips back.

HEARTS AND MINDS

• Boone and Locke discuss the fact that they are lying to the rest of the survivors:

BOONE: You know, we're going to have to tell them.

LOCKE: Tell them what?

BOONE: What we found. You know, they're not going to keep believing that we're coming out here hunting. We never go back. . .

LOCKE: They're not ready. They won't understand it.

Boone and Shannon argue in the jungle:

SHANNON: What did you do to him?

BOONE: What did I do to who?

SHANNON: Locke. What did you do to that psycho to piss him off?

BOONE: I didn't do anything to him.

SHANNON: What? He just did it because he was bored? Look, I know you guys are. . .

BOONE: Let's go back to camp.

• Boone tries to take Shannon from Bryan's home:

BOONE: Do you have any bags? Anything you want to take?

SHANNON: You should go back.

BOONE: No, Shannon. We're getting out of this country. Is there anything you want to bring with you? What's the matter with you?

• After they've had sex, Shannon wants her relationship with Boone to return to normal:

SHANNON: Boone?

BOONE: What?

SHANNON: When we get back to LA [she switches on the light; she's sitting on a chair fully clothed] you should just tell your mom that you rescued me again just like you always do. And then we'll just go back.

BOONE: To what?

SHANNON: To what it was.

• Sun explains to Jin that she was planning to leave him:

SUN [subtitled]: What are you doing? Please answer me. So you're going where - to the beach? Is that how you've chosen to deal with me? Why didn't you just tell me you didn't burn the raft? Why won't you speak to me, Jin? What have I done to deserve this? When did we stop talking?

SUN [in English]: I was going to leave you. I was going to get away. But you made me change my mind. You made me think that you still loved me.

SUN [subtitled]: I want to go back to the beginning. Can't we -- just start all over?

DEUS EX MACHINA

• Locke's legs begin to fail him, and Boone urges him to let him take him to Jack:

[Locke falls.]

BOONE: That's it. Let's go back.

LOCKE: I'm fine.

BOONE: No, you're not. Let me get you back to Jack.

LOCKE: Jack wouldn't know the first thing about what's wrong with me.
