- Charlie chats with Claire:
CLAIRE: Thanks, Charlie.
CHARLIE: For what?
CLAIRE: People don't seem to look me in the eye here. I think I scare them. It's like I'm this time bomb of responsibility just waiting to go off.
CHARLIE: You don't scare me. |
- Charlie catches Boone hoarding the water:
CHARLIE: Here's your thief.
MICHAEL: Where'd he hide it?
CHARLIE: I don't know. This wanker had three bottles of it. Why'd you do it pretty boy, eh?
BOONE: It was just sitting in -- it was just sitting in the tent, and Jack just took off.
CHARLIE: Claire could've died.
BOONE: I tried to give her some soda, but it just got out of hand. No one would have understood.
KATE [entering]: What is going on?
BOONE: Someone had to take responsibility for it. It would have never lasted. |
- Jack treats Sayid's head wound after Sayid was hit from behind seeking out a radio signal:
JACK: This is going to hurt. Ready to tell me what happened?
SAYID: We were trying to find the source of the distress call. I saw the flare from the beach and then the flare from Sawyer's position in the jungle. I switched on my antenna, activated the transceiver, and then darkness. Whoever hit me came from behind.
JACK: They destroyed the equipment?
SAYID: Yes.
JACK: Listen, we're going to figure this out, but don't do anything. . .
SAYID: I will do whatever I need to do to find the man responsible. |
- Sayid is promoted in the Iraq Republican Guard:
OMAR: I'll put in for your reassignment to Intelligence Division, if you wish it.
SAYID: Yes, sir, very much so.
OMAR: Good, now stop calling me sir when it's just the two of us.
SAYID: You're my superior officer, Omar -- for now.
OMAR: And I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
[Shot of a woman being brought in for interrogation. Sayid watches her.]
OMAR: That reminds me, Sayid. In addition to your increased responsibility... Communications officer... [the dialogue volume fades as the woman walks by.]
SAYID: I'm willing to make that sacrifice. |
CLAIRE: What's happening?
LOCKE: You know what's happening.
CLAIRE: But I don't understand. Why --?
LOCKE: He was your responsibility but you gave him away, Claire. Everyone pays the price now. |
- Thomas breaks up with Claire:
THOMAS: Claire? I can't do this.
CLAIRE: Do what? Did you have a bad day?
THOMAS: This isn't working. You knew that.
CLAIRE: I what? Um, just so I'm not over-reacting here, are you breaking up with me?
THOMAS: Look, for the past three months, it's just, you know, there's always some plan, some responsibility, somewhere that we have to be, someone that you have to talk to. |
ALL THE BEST COWBOYS HAVE DADDY ISSUES
- Jack, Kate and Locke are looking for Charlie and Claire who have been abducted:
LOCKE: Jack. Jack. Good thing you were going in a circle. Not much of a search grid, but we never would have found you otherwise.
KATE [to Jack]: Did you find anything?
JACK: No.
LOCKE: You should go back to the caves -- Sayid's leg.
JACK: I dressed Sayid's leg. You found me, we can find Charlie and Claire. Now, do we have a trail to follow or not?
LOCKE: Jack, this was my fault.
JACK: What?
LOCKE: I hunted with Ethan. I spent time with him. I never sensed anything off. But for everything that I know about hunting, tracking -- whoever he is, he knows more. If we catch up with him, I don't want anything to happen to the only trained physician on the island. So go back, be the doctor. Let me be the hunter. |
CHARLIE: We're stranded on an island. No one's coming for us.
ROSE: You don't know that.
CHARLIE: Well, what I do know, is there's something in that jungle that eats people. Just because we haven't heard from it in a couple of weeks doesn't mean it won't get hungry again. And I know there's a person, or people, that are trying to hurt us. . .
ROSE: Charlie. Nobody blames you.
CHARLIE: What?
ROSE: For what happened to Claire. It's not your fault. You did everything that you could do. And you came very close to dying yourself. |
- Boone has a vision of a dead Shannon:
BOONE [attacking Locke]: You killed her.
LOCKE: You made it back.
BOONE: You killed my sister. It's your fault. You drug her out there.
LOCKE: Your sister?
BOONE: Don't play dumb with me.
LOCKE: Calm down. |
- Claire has returned, but Charlie still worries:
CHARLIE: It's my fault he took her. I was responsible. I should have taken care of her. I should. . .
JACK: Charlie, nothing's going to happen to her, okay?
CHARLIE: Yeah, okay. |
- Kate and Sawyer play "I Never":
KATE: Bottoms up, sailor.
SAWYER: I've gotta drink for each one.
KATE: Your turn.
SAWYER: I've never been married.
[Kate drinks a small sip.]
KATE: It didn't last very long. I never blamed a boar for all my problems.
[Sawyer drinks.] |
- Locke tells Kate the story of his sister Jeanie:
LOCKE [making coffee]: My sister, Jeanie, died when I was a boy. Fell off the monkey bars and broke her neck. And my mother, well, my foster mother, she blamed herself, of course -- thought she wasn't watching close enough. So, she stopped eating, stopped sleeping. The neighbors started talking, afraid she might do something to herself, I guess. [Sipping coffee] Oh, that's good. Anyway, about 6 months after Jeanie's funeral this golden retriever comes padding up our driveway, walks right into our house, sits down on the floor, and looks right at my mother, there on the couch. And my mother looks back at the dog. After about a minute of this, of them both staring at each other like that, my mother burst into tears. Beautiful dog, no tags, no collar, healthy, and sweet. The dog slept in Jeanie's old room, on Jeanie's old bed and stayed with us until my mother passed 5 years later. Then, disappeared back to wherever it was she came from in the first place.
KATE: So, you're saying the dog was your sister?
LOCKE: Well, that would be silly. But my mother thought it was, thought that Jeanie had come back to tell her the accident wasn't her fault, let her off the hook. |
- Jin reports to his father-in-law, Mr. Paik:
JIN [subtitled]: I take full responsibility for what happened, sir. The machinery is old, I should have...
MR. PAIK [subtitled]: I didn't call to reprimand you. I called to promote you. You will be my new special assistant.
JIN [subtitled]: Sir, I don't know what to...
MR. PAIK [subtitled]: Do you know Byung Han?
JIN [subtitled]: The Secretary for Environmental Safety?
MR. PAIK [subtitled]: Go to his home tonight. Deliver this message: "I'm very displeased." |
- Jin talks over his problems with his father:
JIN [subtitled]: I wish I could start over.
FATHER [subtitled]: Why can't you?
JIN [subtitled]: I have responsibilities.
FATHER [subtitled]: More important than your wife? |
- Martha Toomey and Hurley discuss the numbers:
MARTHA: You think I'd still have my leg if Sam hadn't have picked the right number of beans? You think that floods wouldn't have happened? That homes wouldn't have burned down? That people wouldn't have died?
HURLEY: Well, yeah.
MARTHA: You make your own luck, Mr. Reyes. Don't blame it on the damn numbers. You're looking for an excuse that doesn't exist. |
- Hurley tries to tell Charlie about his curse:
CHARLIE: Back in the jungle before we became target practice you were going to tell me what inspired this little quest.
HURLEY: I think the plane crash might have been my fault.
CHARLIE: Don't be daft, how could you possibly...
HURLEY: Hey, before we came here a lot of bad stuff used to happen whenever I was around.
CHARLIE: What do you mean, like bad luck?
HURLEY: Yeah, that's -- that would be kind of a mellow way of describing it.
CHARLIE: Hurley, bad things happen, planes crash, people die. |
- Jack teases his best man before the rehearsal dinner:
JACK: You nervous, Silverman?
MARC: What the hell do I have to be nervous about?
JACK: It's a big responsibility.
MARC: I can handle responsibility.
JACK: Maybe. But I know that you don't like to get up in front of crowds.
MARC: I'll be fine. After about 8 beers, I'll be fine. |
- Michael and Sawyer discuss Jin's desire to build the raft:
SAWYER: The man's got what I call an overzealous work ethic.
MICHAEL: Try obsession. He wants off this island bad, man.
SAWYER: Can't say I blame poor Kato. His lady speaks English all this time and he didn't have a clue? I'm surprised he didn't try to swim out of here. Hell, I would've. |
- The CIA agents explain to Sayid what they want from him:
AGENT COLE: Okay, Sayid, 18 hours in a holding cell should be enough. Let's get to it, shall we? I'm Melissa Cole from Central Intelligence, this is Robbie Hewitt from ASIS. We're here because you're going to do us a favor.
SAYID: A favor?
AGENT HEWITT: Last week 300 pounds of C-4 explosives were stolen from an army base outside of Melbourne. The men responsible are members of a terrorist cell intent on disrupting the coalition presence in Iraq. 300 pounds of C-4 - I want it back. |
- The mast breaks off the raft, as they try to push it into the water:
MICHAEL: Push. Push, c'mon guys, push. Use the levers, use the levers. Good, good. 1-2-3, lift.
[The raft picks up momentum and starts moving on it's own. It "crashes" and Sawyer backs away. The mast breaks off.]
MICHAEL: I can't believe this [giving Sawyer a dirty look.] Can't believe it.
SAWYER: What are you looking at me for? It's not my fault.
MICHAEL: You missed a lever.
SAWYER: Because you couldn't keep the raft going straight. |
- They then attempt to fix the mast:
MICHAEL: We can salvage the cable but we need new bamboo for the mast.
JIN [looking at the rails under the raft]: [Speaks in Korean.]
MICHAEL: We need to fix the rudder before we even start to think about that.
JIN: [Speaks in Korean.]
MICHAEL: Let's get this done first.
SAWYER: Need some help? [Michael and Jin ignore him and walk by] Hey, it wasn't my fault. So put me to work.
MICHAEL: No offense, we just work faster this way, okay. |
- Sawyer reveals to Jack that he met Christian:
SAWYER [calling after Jack as he walks away]: Jack. About a week before we all got on the plane I got to talking to this man in a bar in Sydney. He was American, too. A doctor. I've been on some benders in my time, but this guy -- he was going for an all time record. It turns out this guy has a son -- his son's a doctor, too. They had some kind of big time falling out. The guy knew it was his fault even though his son was back in the States thinking the same damn thing. See, kids are like dogs, you knock them around enough they'll think they did something to deserve it. Anyway, there's a pay phone in this bar. And this guy, Christian, tells me he wishes he had the stones to pick up the phone, call his kid, tell him he's sorry, that he's a better doctor than he'll ever be -- he's proud, and he loves him. I had to take off, but something tells me he never got around to making that call. Small world, huh?
JACK: Yeah.
SAWYER: Good luck, Jack. |
SAYID: I didn't know Boone very well, and for that I am sorry. On our 6th day here a woman named Joanna died. She drowned. And Boone was the first one into the water. I didn't know him, but I remember his courage. And I know he will be missed.
LOCKE [off camera]: It was my fault. We found a plane, a Beechcraft, in the jungle. It was lodged in the canopy so -- I would have gone up, but I -- my leg was hurt so he -- there was a radio inside and he thought he could -- look, his weight must have made the plane shift and it fell -- and -- it happened because he was trying to help us. He was a hero.
JACK: Where were you? Where were you? Where the hell were you, you son of a bitch? [Jack runs at Locke and tackles him] What did you do to him? |
- Sayid talks Essam into martyring himself:
ESSAM: I'm not sure if I can do this.
SAYID: You would not be a martyr if you didn't have to overcome fear, Essam.
ESSAM: I'm not afraid to die. It's all the innocent lives -- all those people. The Imam preaches peace, Sayid. Every human life is sacred.
SAYID: It's true, innocent lives will be lost -- in service of a greater good.
ESSAM: What if I'm doing this because I'm angry? What if I'm doing this because they killed her?
SAYID: What if you are? Should we just accept what happened to Zahra? Do we just accept their deaths? Because if we do, it means that ultimately we can do nothing about them. I lost someone, too, Essam. I will never be whole again. There need to be consequences for those responsible. That's my duty. That is how I will honor her. |
- Sayid tries to calm Shannon after Boone's death:
SAYID: I spoke to Locke.
SHANNON: What did he say?
SAYID: He took me to the plane. I believe what happened was an accident.
SHANNON: Then why did he lie?
SAYID: I have no idea. But I don't believe he meant to harm Boone.
SHANNON: So that's it?
SAYID: I know how strong the need can be to find someone to blame. |
CHARLIE: Oh, my god.
CLAIRE: Is he alright?
SAYID: Rousseau, was she alone?
CLAIRE: Did she take my baby? Did she take my baby?!
SAYID: Claire, which way did she go?
CLAIRE: I don't know! She took my baby!
CHARLIE [punching Sayid]: It's your fault! You brought her into the camp. If you had just given me a gun.
[Charlie makes to take another jab at Sayid. Sayid grabs Charlie's throat.]
SAYID: Do not hit me again. You want to waste time assigning blame? There's plenty to go around. She has a head start. If we leave now we can catch her.
CHARLIE: How are we going to do that?
SAYID: Because I know where she's going. |
- Claire demands to go with Sayid and Charlie to find Aaron:
CLAIRE: I'm coming with you.
SAYID: That's not a good idea, Claire.
CLAIRE: This is my baby, okay. I let her take him.
CHARLIE: Hey, hey.
CLAIRE [hitting Charlie]: Don't tell me what to do, okay!
CHARLIE: Calm down!
CLAIRE: I am going to come with you. This is my fault and I'm coming and you can't stop me! |
