Black and White has been a recurrent motif since the early days of Lost. Some of these occurrences are most certainly symbolic, others are likely placed for more mundane reasons like convenience or style. We'll leave it to you to decide.

Black and White(also Light and Dark) may refer to the struggle between good and evil, between ignorance and knowledge, or the search for balance. Symbolic possibilities abound.
