A Korean man of great power and influence. Mr. Paik, Sun's father, has employed Jin.
Jin's strained relationship with his wife, Sun, stems from his employment to her unscrupulous father. When Jin came home one night with blood on his hands, Sun grew afraid of him and what kind of work he was doing for Mr. Paik. Jin feels it would be dishonorable to tell Sun about her father's shady dealings and his silence before the crash led to the dissolution of their relationship.
Jin was assigned a secret mission to deliver watches to Mr. Paik's associates in Sydney and then Los Angeles. Sun had assumed that it was a vacation. Jin's initial plan was to stay in the United States, as his father suggested until he was confronted by an associate of Mr. Paik in an airport restroom before boarding the doomed flight. The spy informed Jin that his plan to flee with Sun had been found out and he threatened to take Sun away from him should they run away.

Mystery of Jin's Bloody Hands
In HORS, Jin came home with bloody hands and a stained shirt. He went directly to the bathroom to clean up and would tell Sun nothing. She pressed him, and he shouted that he was working for her father. He was doing it for her.
In IT we learned that - Jin was ordered by Mr. Paik to send a message to Byung Han. Misunderstanding the order, Jin botches the hit job by giving Han a verbal warning. In gratitude, Han gave Jin a puppy, which Jin took home to Sun.
In the background of the apartment, Han's young daughter watched Hurley's Winning Lotto Interview on Korean TV. The tv ticker translates as: Fortunate Winner, Los Angeles California.
Mr. Paik ordered Jin to drive White Shirt to finish the job. When he was sent back a second time to drive White Shirt to the hit, he saved Mr. Han from sure death by beating him severely. When he returned home his hands were covered in blood.
This resolves the mystery that was planted in HORS when Sun saw him come in with bloody hands and questioned him. It appears that Jin did not tell Sun what he did, only that he was working for her father and that he was doing it for her.
In D.O.C. we learn that Sun was blackmailed by Jin's mother. She agreed to pay her $100,000 to keep quiet about his parentage. His mother being a prostitute and his father being a poor fisherman. Sun goes to her father's office to ask him for the money. In doing so she reveals that she knows what it is her father does for a living. With the understanding that Jin will now work for her father, Sun takes the money. Thereby changing the course of their relationship forever.
