    Finding Nemo

there has also been comparisons made to Finding Nemo in that Michael, a single father, has now lost his son Walt to the "others" at sea just as Marlin loses Nemo in the movie.

    The Wages of Fear

Danielle leads the losties to the Black Rock, along the way she talks about one of her crew member who lost his arm. I've seen his name written in all sorts of fashion, but the real name seems to be "Montand".

Yves Montand, french actor and singer played in a movie titled "The Wages of Fear" (Le salaire de la peur, in French) (1953)

In this movie, Mario, the character played by Yves Montand, had to drive a truck full of nitroglycerin on busted roads and hills in South America. He was hired to bring the shipment to an oil field to put out a fire.

Two trucks departed, and one blew along the way. 4 people (2 per truck) like the number of Losties (main characters - Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley). As the worst was over, the last truck was stuck in a puddle of oil. When Mario's codriver tried to free the truck, he fell into a hole and died (Locke was also dragged down a hole).

This is obviously an homage or at least a direct reference, since the losties were on a mission to bring back dynamite (nitro stabilised by clay as Artz explained).

Jacob's Ladder

Jack and Locke blow the lid off the hatch with dynamite taken from the Black Rock. Jack and Locke peer down into the hatch and we see a partially broken ladder that disappears into blackness. Apologies there isn't a good screencap of the ladder

Reminiscent of a movie called Jacob's Ladder in more ways than one possibly...see for yourself:

Jacob's Ladder is a 1990 thriller film directed by Adrian Lyne based on a screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin. The film appears to be a variation on Ambrose Bierce’s 1886 short story, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, which was made into a short film in 1961, and later popularized as a 1964 episode of the television show, The Twilight Zone.

Quote:
Louis: "Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth."

Note that Hurley called the tunnel into the hatch the "burning death hole" in S2E1, Man of Science, Man of Faith.

Star Wars

Sawyer calls Michael and Jin "Han and Chewie". To all the Star Wars fans these scenes were a clear nod to the George Lucas Star Wars series. And considering the timing of this coinciding with the release of the new Star Wars movie Revenge of the Sith, it seems to be a big nod to the epic movie series.
