Psycho

The music in this episode (reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann original Hitchcock scores) and a number of the shots at the motel appear to be homage to the parts of Psycho that involve Marion Crane's flight from Phoenix and to the Bates Motel after she stole $40,000 from her boss.

Of course, who can forget the famous shower scene which Marion Crane gets murdered. Our Kate didn't meet with the same fate, but the scene does seem familiar.
