Help Out The Long Lost List:

The Mystery of Sceve: Scott and Steve

This drove people crazy when the mix-up of Scott & Steve occured during the episode Homecoming. Christian Bowman, who plays Steve was killed presumably by Ethan, but Hurley identified him as Scott. Now Dustin Watchman, who originally was Scott, continues to play Steve, or does he? There's a bit of a mystery here as to who is who. So here's what we got:

    MOTH

  • Scott and Steve make their first appearance. Michael asks them for help after Jack is trapped in the cave-in.
    Quote:
Charlie - A cave collapsed. We don't even know if he's alive. Come on, we've gotta go.
Michael - Hey, uh, uh, Scott?
Steve - I'm Steve. (Guy on the Right -Christian Bowman)
Scott - I'm Scott. (Guy on Left - Dustin Watchman)

    HOME
  • Ethan killed either Scott or Steve. Here's the rub. The actor playing the dead Scott was actually Christian Bowman, usually credited for playing Steve Jackson. This is where the confusion occured:
    Quote:
SAWYER: Guess old Steve drew the short straw.
    HURLEY: Dude, that was Scott.

  • Then of course at the funeral, Hurley again says it was Scott:
    Quote:
HURLEY: Scott Jackson worked for an internet company in Santa Cruz. He won a sales prize - two-week Australian vacation, all expenses paid. He was a good guy. (to the grave) Sorry I kept calling you Steve, man. Um ... (awkwardly) ... amen, I guess.

    DNH
  • Sceve admires Claire's baby. This is the first time we've seen Steve (or is that Scott?) since the funeral after Sceve was hacked up by Ethan.

    EX2
  • Sawyer while reading the messages to go in the bottle, still gets Scott and Steve mixed up, but who can blame him?
    Quote:
SAWYER: (smiling) Yep. (He goes back to reading the note.) I, for one, never knew how much Tracy missed her hubby and two kids back in Fresno. Yet she's sleeping next to good ol' Scott to keep her warm at night. (Sawyer chuckles.)
    WALT: That's Steve. Scott's dead.

    EHH
  • Hurley tells Rose that he can't handle his new job of taking care of the food Desmond had left in the food locker. He mentions Steve:
    Quote:
HURLEY: Let me tell you something, Rose. We were all fine before we had any [he pulls chips off the shelf] potato chips. But now we've got these potato chips and everybody's going to want them. So Steve gets them, and Charlie's pissed -- but he's not pissed at Steve, he's pissed at me.

So what is going on here?
Dustin Watchman is now playing Steve Jackson.
Are we not in on an inside joke, are the writers just messing with us, doing a switcheroo as a joke?
Or...is there really something behind the fake-out? A new plot twist that we will be seeing in the future?

    To quote Christian Bowman:
    Quote:
    Bwa ha ha ha...
    Only the writers really know....Boo!
    Christian Bowman:
    Quote:
"One of you is dead on..."

From one of the threads on the Fuselage:
    Quote:
On the Sceve ship thread, a bunch of LOST forensics experts, me included, went over this. And over it and over it and...
    1. In The Moth Christian is clearly identified as Steve, Dustin as Scott when Michael asks for help after the cave in

    2. It was Christian that they found dead after Ethan's threat to Charlie.

    3. Neither Dustin nor Christian were at the Hurley-led burial scene, it just another white guy behind Hurley. Hey, we all look the same, it's an easy mistake to make!

    4. Dustin's contract says his characters name is Scott.

    5. Christian hasn't been seen since his character's death and Dustin has.

    6. For reasons known only to them, the writers have killed off Christian but gave a funeral for the name associated with Dustin.

I think that's where we are with this. I suspect there's just a lame "Wait, I thought you were Steve" joke by Hurley in our future, but it could have more sinister implications. Originally posted by Jeremy Bender at the fuselage

    Other Notes
    Well, after
Homecoming aired, there's was much confusion as to who really died. At one time, Christian Bowman had posted at The Fuselage that on the day of shooting, Dustin Watchman (Scott) was not on the set. So Christian (Steve) took his place in the scene. Now unfortunately, that post seems to have disappeared. There are posts though that seem to support that the original post did exist at one time:
    Quote:
Question from Kaidysoft: So YOU WERE SCOTT? AND YOU ARE DEAD? do I have it now?
Christian Bowman to Kaidysoft: Sorry to be the heart breaker...
Didn't mean for it all to happen this way, it just kinda did...

From the Homecoming forum at TheFuselage:
    Quote:
This much, we know for sure:
Christian, who normally played Steve, played the part of Scott the dead guy for Homecoming.
Dustin was not at the filming for this episode.
Christian is done with filming. His part, whoever he was, has ended.
Dustin, whoever he is, is still on the show and slated to have a bigger part in the show.MPmom, The Fuselage

    Other Questions:
    Walkabout
    Quote:
CLAIRE: Oh, he's good. Yeah. Thanks. Um, I thought maybe you should see this.
(She hands him a journal.) Someone found it in there. They were collecting all the belongings. (He looks at the journal and at the photos inside.)
They're wedding plans for Steve and Kristen. They were on the plane sitting a couple of rows behind me. I remember because they looked so happy.
    Later:
    Quote:
CLAIRE: Steve and Kristen - (she opens the book) -- I don't know their last name, but, uh ... they were really in love and were gonna be married. At least wherever they are now, they're not alone.
Is there any chance that this is our Steve? That he survived, Kristen didn't, and that he never corrected Claire when she read both their names?

After all, he never corrected Hurley during the funeral. (Or was that Scott?)

    But since Claire did see
Steve and Kristin together on the plane, and there were also photos of them she showed Jack, it would seem likely Claire would recognize the surviving Steve. The conclusion seems that Kristin's Steve is altogether different from the surviving Steve we have seen.

    (TLC)
    Quote:
We see Jack and Ana-Lucia walking on the beach.]
ANA: I got a couple more people interested in joining up.
    JACK: Yeah, who?
ANA: Uh, the big guy who lives behind Sayid and Scott.
JACK: You mean Steve, Scott's dead.
ANA: Scott, Steve -- the point is, after what happened people are finally willing to do something.
