-DOCTOR: The police found him in an alley in King's Cross. Our tox screen showed a blood alcohol content which, for a man of his size, probably brought on myocardial infarction -- a sizable and fatal heart attack.

-King's Cross has for a long time been known to most Australians as the drugs and red light capital of Australia. Most Australians who have visited Sydney at one time or another have wandered through the Cross, if only for a look at how the "other half" live and play. In recent years, however, this sleezy pocket of Sydney has started to evolve, albeit ever so slowly, into a richly vibrant part of the city. The strip clubs, topless waitresses, adult bookshops and tacky nightclubs are still there,
but small, trendy cafes have sprung up on the fringes of the Cross that are attracting a different type of visitor. The Cross is most sleazy at night, when the bright lights come on and the action hots up. During the day it can look a lot less threatening.
Visitors to the area should be careful, especially at night, as people do get mugged here. The other thing to be careful of is the spuikers outside nightclubs: they can be intimidating and aggressive and have been a problem in recent times. Excerpted from tourist information from sydney.com
- Sawyer and Christian Shephard shared a bottle of whiskey in a bar. (OUT) Sawyer was seen in the police station shouting about the bottle not being his in (HAM).
- Jack shares a moment with another passenger - Ana Lucia while having a drink, he tells her about his father:
| Quote: |
ANA LUCIA: The girl at the check-in counter. You were yelling at her.
(He chuckles a little.)
JACK: I'm sorry uh ... do I know you?
ANA LUCIA: I'm on your flight. L.A?
(Jack nods.)
ANA LUCIA: So your dad died, huh?
JACK: I thought you didn't hear what I was yelling about.
ANA LUCIA: I was being polite.
JACK: (nods) Yeah. My dad died.
ANA LUCIA: How?
JACK: A heart attack.

Jack and Sawyer have a touching moment, when Sawyer FINALLY tells Jack that he ran into his father before he died in a bar....(it's one of the best scenes):
| Quote: |
SAWYER: By the time you get back, we'll be in the water. Guess this is pretty much goodbye, then.
JACK: Yeah, I guess it is. Good luck, Sawyer.
(Jack turns to leave. Sawyer ponders telling Jack something that he's known for a while.)
SAWYER: Jack.
(Jack stops and turns around. He heads back toward Sawyer.)
SAWYER: About a week before we all got on the plane ... (Sawyer puts his shirt on.) I got to talking with this man in a bar in Sydney. He was an American, too -- a doctor.
(Sawyer buttons his shirt.)
SAWYER: I've been on some benders in my time, but this guy -- he was going for an all-time record. It turns out this guy has a son. The son's a doctor, too.
(Sawyer has his complete attention now.)
SAWYER: And they'd had some kind of big-time falling out. The guy knew it was his fault, even though his son was back in the States thinking the same damn thing. See, kids are like dogs -- if you knock them around enough, they'll think they did something to deserve it.
(Jack is silent as he listens.)
SAWYER: Anyway ... there's a pay phone in this bar, and this guy ... Christian ... tells me he wishes he had the stones to pick up the phone and call his kid. Tell him he's sorry, that he's a better doctor than he'll ever be.
(Overcome with emotion, Jack turns away. Sawyer watches Jack.)
SAWYER: He's proud. He loves him.
(Jack struggles not to cry.)
SAWYER: I had to take off, but ... something tells me he never got around to making that call. Small world, huh?
(Jack nods.)
JACK: Yeah.
SAWYER: Good luck, Jack.
(Jack looks at Sawyer, their eyes meet. Sawyer nods and turns away. Camera holds on Jack. Jack turns and leaves.)

MORE NOTES:
Author: Sam G - We might be able to figure something out.
Exodus 1
CALDERWOOD: You remember me? Three nights ago, you were hauled in here thrashing and fighting. As you were being escorted by, you kicked my desk ... and you broke my mug.
Later Sawyer to Jack
SAWYER: About a week before we all got on the plane ... (Sawyer puts his shirt on.) I got to talking with this man in a bar in Sydney. He was an American, too -- a doctor.
Put that together with the Hotel Manager saying that Jack's dad hadn't slept in his bed for 3 days. Also at some point Jack's dad shaved. When we see him in the bar with Sawyer, he needs a shave. In the Morgue, he's clean shaven, they don't do that in the morgue.
It doesn't look like Sawyer was the last person to see Jack's dad alive. If the time reference is right there were several days that Christian went back to the hotel before he didn't sleep in his bed for 3 days.
