The Empty Coffin & Christian Shephard's Body

Jack finds water, along with more plane wreckage. Amongst the debris is a coffin. When Jack opens it, he finds it empty and gets very upset since he has been having visions of his father on the island. He doesn't find the closure he was looking for.

He had argued with the airline agent about getting his father's body on the plane. He must have succeeded. (see note below) Also, in Exodus Part 1 Ana Lucia overhears Jack arguing with the ticket agent and strikes up a conversation with him and ends up offering him a drink after they board the plane. So she must have also heard the outcome of Jack's argument was to his favor.
Note: Javi confirmed that Christian Shephard's body was on the plane. It was not in the coffin that Jack found, in fact we don't even know if that was the coffin of Dr. Shephard. 

Was this Jack's father's coffin? If so, where is the body now?
