The Polar Bears
Special

Walt looks at the comic book, turning to the page with the polar bear, and tries to read the Spanish phonetically. Michael approaches and tries to connect with him by talking about artwork. Walt doesn't seem to pay attention and Michael gets frustrated, takes the comic away and insists that Walt come help him work.

Later, Michael and Walt argue at the caves after Michael caught Locke teaching Walt to throw a knife. In a fit of anger, Michael throws the comic in the fire, it lands with the page of the polar bear fighting the hero.

    WALT: (loudly) You're a jerk.

(Michael turns and looks at Walt.)

MICHAEL: What'd you say to me?

WALT: Mr. Locke didn't do anything wrong. He's my friend.

MICHAEL: He's not anymore. I'm looking out for you.

WALT: You don't care about me. You never cared about me.

    MICHAEL: What?

WALT: You only showed up after my mom died. Where were you when I was growing
    up, huh? Nowhere.

    MICHAEL: Listen, Walt, it's complicated.

WALT: I don't even care. You're not my father.

(Walt stands there and glares at Michael.)

MICHAEL: You want to hate me? You gonna punish me for something I can't
    change? Fine!

(Michael grabs the comic book out from his pocket and jabs it at the air in
front of Walt's face to emphasize his point.)

MICHAEL: But you will listen to me.

(Michael flings the comic book aside and into the burning fire.)

(Walt turns and watches the comic book burn.)

(The comic book is open to the page where Kyle Rayner (The Green Lantern) meets
up with the polar bear on an icy planet.)

MICHAEL: (points) Now, you get over there, ...

(Walt turns and looks at Michael.)

MICHAEL: ... and you stay there.

    (Walt doesn't move.)

    MICHAEL: Now!

    (Glaring at Michael, Walt leaves.)
