Eko awakens in his tent to find his dead brother
urging him that it is time to confess. Although he is critically
injured from his encounter with the polar bear, Eko ventures into the
jungle seeking Yemi. On his way, he has visions of the men he killed in
Nigeria, and the young alter boy, Daniel. As he continues on his
journey, Eko catches a reflection of the monster in the water as he
bends to drink, but it appears to be frightened off by Locke and the
group that he is taking to the Pearl Hatch. As Eko and Locke make their
way to the location of the Beechcraft crash, and the Pearl Hatch,
Locke tells Eko that he's seen "it" too, and that what he saw was a
"very bright light" and "beautiful." Eko assures him that this is not
what he saw.

Eventually the group makes their way to the crash
location/Pearl Hatch, where Eko's brother finally finds him. Yemi
leads Eko out into a clearing, where he once again urges Eko to confess
his sins. However, Eko refuses. Eko tells his brother that he has
nothing to confess--he did the best he could with the life that was
given to him. But this does not satisfy Yemi, and he reveals that he is
not Eko's brother at all. At this, Eko retreats back towards the
Beechcraft, and this is where the smoke monster emerges in its smoke
form, and beats Eko to death. Locke manages to come up from the hatch
in time to see the smoke monster administer it's final blows. He rushes
to Eko's side and Eko whispers his fainl words to Locke: "You're next."

Eko's encounter with Smokey opens up a number of
questions regarding other visions that Losties have had and whether or
not they too were Smokey manifesting itself as it did Yemi. These
visions include Jack's vision of Christian, Hurley's vision of Dave, Shannon's visions of Walt, and Kate's vision
of the horse.
