MESOPOTAMIA

On their second day on the island, Locke tells Walt, "Backgammon is the oldest game in the world. Archaeologists found sets when they excavated the ruins of Ancient Mesopotamia. Five thousand years old. That's older than Jesus Christ.

As they hear the transmission for the first time they realize it is in French. Everyone is frantic to find out if anyone speaks French to translate the message. Boone says Shannon knows French because she spent a year in Paris. Shannon argues back that she only drank in Paris not studied.
