FLASHBACK SUMMARY:

Sun and Jin are having difficulty conceiving. Jin is desperate to have children, because he believes by giving Mr. Paik a grandchild, his father-in-law may pull him from his more dangerous assignments. Sun, however, is more reluctant to become pregnant, as she is taking English lessons from Jae Lee, and planning on leaving Jin.

After months of trying, Sun and Jin eventually visit a fertility specialist who tells the couple that Sun is infertile. However, later, the same doctor confesses to Sun that it is Jin who is infertile, but he was too frightened to tell Jin the truth.
