Joyce
Malkin come to the church claiming her daughter drowned to death, and
then came back to life. She insists that the Catholic church declare it
a miracle, but they must investigate it first. Eko is put on miracle
duty, because of his natural skepticism.
Eko
starts at the medical examiner's office. The examiner tells Eko that he
realized that Charlotte was not dead during the autopsy. He produces
the audio tape made during the procedure as proof. From the sounds of
it, Charlotte came back to life with a blood-chilling scream shortly
before the ME was about to cut into her.
Eko's
next stop is at the home of the miracle woman. He is greeted by her
father, Richard Malkin,
Claire's psychic. Richard assures Eko that no
miracle took place. In Richard's version of events, the medical
examiner was incompetent, and his daughter simply suffered from
hypothermia. He goes on to explain that his wife's insistence that a
miracle occurred is simply her way of spiting her husband. Malkin
claims that he's not a real psychic, but simply a manipulator who
gathers intelligence on his customers to exploit them. There are no
real miracles to be had.
Eko,
convinced, is at the airport heading tot he United States, when he is
confronted by Charlotte Malkin. She tells him that she has a message
for him from her time "between places." She goes on to tell Eko that
Yemi, his dead brother, says that Eko is a good man even though he is
pretending. Eko becomes upset, and Libby steps in to help, as Charlotte
leaves.
