FLASHBACK SUMMARY:

Jack is called to the ER for a car accident. It's Sarah (his future wife). She's been in a head on collision with a SUV and both her and the other driver are rushed in. Jack makes the game call and saves Sarah and leaves "Rutherford" to the other nurses and EMT's there. Sarah has a piece of metal sticking out of her chest. Jack draws fluid from her and her PB stablizes. Just as she's out of the woods, Mr. Rutherford passes away. Sarah goes in for surgery on her crushed spine and Jack promises to "fix" her. He does what he can, but when he feels he has failed, he punishes himself by running a "tour de stade". He runs up and down all the steps in a stadium. This is where he meets Desmond. Desmond is seen racing up the set of steps next to Jack and when Jack stumbles to keep up, Desmond comes to his aid. They sit and chat for a minute. Desmond tells Jack he shouldn't have tried to keep up with him. He gives advice to Jack when he gets him to admit he's running because he failed to fix her. Desmond asks, "But, what if you did fix her?" Jack tells him it would have to be a miracle. Desmond makes the observation that Jack doesn't believe in miracles. But then he gives him a bit of advice , "You have to lift it up... Jack says, "Lift it up?" Desmond replies, "your ankle." At end of encounter: See you in another life, eh?
