FLASHBACK SUMMARY:
Jack is in Phuket attempting to "find himself" when he meets and becomes involved with a mysterious Thai woman, Achara, who tells him that she has a "gift." Despite her attempts to warn Jack off, Jack is determined to learn what her gift is. He follows her to her tattoo parlor, where Acahara explains that her gift is the ability to see who people really are, and then she marks them. Jack demands to know what she sees in him, and she tells him: "a leader, a great man," and adds that this makes Jack angry, frightened and lonely. Jack then insists that Achara mark him with this, but Achara is fearful: it is against her culture and there will be consequences. Jack, newly tattooed, then finds himself on the very angry end of Achara's brother's fist, as he is beaten soundly on the beach by Chet and his friends. Consequences, indeed.
