Sun's flashback begins in Sun's childhood. She has broken a glass ballerina figurine, and when her father confronts her about it, she claims the maid did it. Mr. Paik warns her that he will fire the maid if Sun insists that the maid is responsible, and little Sun sticks with her story.
As an adult, we learn that Sun has begun an affair with Jae Lee. He offers her a strand of pearls and asks her to run away with him to America, but before she can answer her father bursts into the room. Mr. Paik is deeply shamed, and asks Jin to kill Jae Lee for him. Jin is hesitant, and
instead of killing Jae Lee, he beats him and warns him that he should leave the country. Believing that he was done with Jae Lee, Jin leaves the hotel, and Jae Lee's body falls onto Jin's car, clutching the strand of pearls that he offered Sun. Finally, sun attends Jae Lee's funeral from a distance. This is where her father finds her, and tells her that she should go home to her husband--it's not his place to tell Jin about the affair...
