FLASHBACK SUMMARY:
Claire is struggling with the fact that she is pregnant, but Thomas encourages her to have the baby. Claire's friend Rachel brings her to a psychic who at first wants nothing to do with Claire, and refuses to do a reading. Then, much later in the pregnancy, Thomas gets cold feet, and leaves her. Claire returns to the psychic, and he agrees to do her reading. She is going to place her child up for adoption, and wants to know if the baby will have a happy life. But instead of telling her what she wants to hear, the psychic urges her to keep the baby, and tells her that the only happy life for the child is with her.
Claire continues moving forward with the adoption and meets with the potential adoptive parents at the lawyer's office. However, Claire changes her mind, and walks away from the adoption proceedings when going to sign the papers all 3 pens do not work.
Malkin, the psychic calls Claire, and tells her that he's found a couple in Los Angeles who want to adopt the baby. He gives her a plane ticket to L.A. and $6,000.00 (with another $6,000 promised upon her arrival in L.A.). She balks at first, saying she can't possibly leave by the next day, but Malkin insists that she must be on this flight.
