FLASHBACK SUMMARY:
As a child, Sawyer is witness to the brutal murder/suicide that his father commits, killing his mother in rage that she had cheated on him with a conman named Sawyer who also stole their money.
Later in life, Sawyer is approached by a fellow conman who informs Sawyer that he's found the "real" Sawyer. Hibbs delivers a folder with "Sawyer's" information.
Apparently, Sawyer has renamed himself Frank Duckett, and he runs a shrimp shack in Sydney. Sawyer pays Duckett a visit, intending to kill him, but he can't bring himself to do it.
Instead, he stops by a bar and happens to have a drink with none other than Christian Shephard, Jack's father. Christian tells Sawyer that it's fate that some people suffer.
Later, Sawyer returns to visit Duckett, and kills him. But before he dies, Sawyer begins reading his letter to him. Duckett tells Sawyer that he didn't have to do that he would have paid Hibbs. Sawyer asks how he knows of Hibbs. Duckett says he doesn't know what he's doing. Sawyer figures it out - that Duckett borrowed money from Hibbs, and Hibbs sent him under false pretense to kill Duckett. Duckett's last words were - "I was going to pay. It'll come back around.
