FLASHBACK SUMMARY:

Locke's flashbacks begin with his job at a super store in the toy department. He is explaining to a boy how to play the game Mousetrap, when he notices a woman watching him. As he leaves the store for the day, Locke sees this same woman in the parking lot, watching him again. Locke follows her (being knocked down harmlessly by a car in the process) and she tells him that she is his mother. Furthermore, Emily Locke tells John that he was immaculately conceived.

Locke hires a private investigator to look into this woman's claims. The PI confirms that she is indeed Locke's mother, but there's more. Locke does have a father, and he has no idea Locke exists.

Locke shows up at Anthony Cooper's estate unannounced, and is allowed inside by the security guard when Locke tells him that he is Emily's son. His father is a very wealthy man, and he immediately warms to Locke, inviting him to go hunting. It appears that their hutning trips have become a regular event, and Locke arrives "early" one day, finding his father attached to a dialysis machine--Cooper needs a new kidney.

In the hospital, Cooper gives Locke an opportunity to back out, and Locke refuses--beleiveing that this was meant to be. When he awakens from surgery, however, Cooper is not there, but Emily is. Emily apologizes and says that it was all Cooper's idea, and that he paid her for her participation. Locke, distraught, goes to Cooper's house once more, but this time the guard will not give him entry.
