A summary, narrated by Ben - aka, Henry Gale.
Once upon a time, there was an island. Some said it was in the South Pacific.
But you wouldn't find it on any map.
Many people have been drawn to the island throughout time. Lost in their travels. And lost in their lives.
One such man shipwrecked and washed up on its shores. His name was Desmond. He was found by a man named Kelvin, and taken to an underground shelter, where Kelvin had been entering a code into a computer every 108 minutes, for a very long time. He soon convinced Desmond to help him and together they save the world with every push of the button for the next three years.
It seemed they might be there forever, but there was one possible way out. "What's that?", Desmond. "Turn the key and all 'this' goes away.", Kelvin.
Kelvin lead Desmond to believe it was unsafe to go outside. Then one day, Desmond risked exposure, and learned he had been deceived. By the time Desmond returned, 108 minutes had passed without entering the code. Desmond was trapped and alone, or so he thought. But at the moment of his greatest dispair, he was amazed to discover he was not alone on this island after all.
So who is this man? He was one passenger on board Oceanic 815. It was a flight like any other. A plane full of strangers. Bound from Sydney to Los Angeles. Among them the doctor, who's lost his father, and lost his way. The girl next door, turned fugitive. A con man, out for revenge, who killed the wrong man. A couple who's marriage is slipping. The soldier, the rock star, the lottery winner, the single mother to be. And of course, the man who's faith was lost and whose body had failed him. These are just a few of the many who were brought together high over the ocean by something they could not understand at the time. Something that caused their plane to break apart and fall from the sky. They could not imagine how they could survive such a crash. Then again, they could never have imagined the power of this island and the tests it would provide.
Two groups of passengers survived. They would be seperated for a time and before they reunited, they would experience the island in very different ways. 48 Survivors from the fuselage were brought together by the crash. They came from all walks of life. And they would all soon discover that this was not an ordinary island. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
A new day arrived, the survivors got aquainted. They were strangers thrown together - each with a different priority.
Across the island the 23 survivors from the tail section had a much different experience. And on their first night, something terrible happened. A deadly confrontation.
Before the crash, John Locke had lost faith in his life. But he rose from the wreckage, with the ability to walk. And with renewed faith, he explored the island and found new purpose. Yet he still yearned for answers. His search to discover the great mysteries of the island led him to a hatch in the ground. And he believed in his heart, that in this hatch, the answers could be found.
Across the island, the tail section survivors would have another encounter with the group whom they would come to call the "Others". And it was clear the "Others" were dedicated to preserve their way of life.
Amid so much uncertainty, Michael wanted desperately to get his son, Walt, off the island. So he built a raft. And after 40 days on the island they were ready to set sail in search of rescue. But they would find out it was not their time to leave the island. When they were intercepted by a group of the "Others".
And on the same night the raft was stopped at sea, the survivors would finally open the hatch they discovered. They had no idea what lay beneath. How could they know that inside, was a man, desperate for his freedom. But one fact was unmistakeable. Two very different worlds were about to collide.
With the hatch blown open, the survivors could only hoppe to find the answers inside. Desmond shared his story of shiprecking on the island and spending 3 years of his life in the station, entering the code into the computer. Jack and Locke watched a film that described the importance of the station. Help had arrived for Desmond, he could not leave quickly enough. Desmond was gone, but Locke was ready and eager to take over his duties. And they explored the hatch in greater detail.
Across the island, after a long night at sea, the raft surviviors washed ashore - without Walt. They soon met the survivors of the tail section. And together they began a long hike across the island to unite with the rest of the passengers. Sawyer had suffered a gun shot wound on the raft and as the group neared the fuselage camp, his condition grew worse.
The two groups were now together, but their many issues were just beginning. The survivors begin taking shifts entering the code into the computer. But one day, something strange happened. Could it be Walt? Or was it a trap created by the "Others"? Regardless, Michael made up his mind. He would wait no longer. No matter what it took, he would find his son, Walt.
With the two camps united, loved ones were brought together and relationships evolved.
Michael was on his own, a father determined to find his son. Michael's determination would lead to a meeting in the jungle with the "Others". It was the first real meeting of the two groups. And it wasn't friendly. But that was understandable. Both had something to protect. The "Others" had issued a warning. A line in the sand, not to be crossed. Unfortunately, the warning would be ignored.
Then one day, not long after their meeting with the "Others", the survivors captured a man in the jungle. He claimed to be a stranded travler. But could his story be believed? They remained uncertain if the stranger could be trusted. So they locked him up.
Across the island, Michael was escorted to a camp where the "Others" were gathered. No one knew if they could believe the man who called himself "Henry Gale". So he drew a map. A map to his balloon and to his wife's grave, in an effort to prove his story. In the hatch, John Locke heard a voice come over the loud speakers, just before the doors locked shut. With the timer counting down, Locke was trapped, and he had no choice, but to trust the man no one trusted. As Henry left to push the button, Locke came across an amazing discovery of a map. It was Kelvin's effort to map all of the stations on the island. John Locke had put his trust in Henry Gale. But now he didn't know what to believe. And after his conversation with Henry, he began to doubt his mission and he stopped believing. He was discouraged and Jack was impatient. Locke grew more and more obsessed with the map he saw. Thinking it might hold the answers. The map led Locke and Mr. Eko to the discovery of another station. It appeared to them, to be a surveillance post, designed to observe the behavior of those entering the numbers. Locke's faith was shattered, but Eko's was awakened.
Jack went out to the line he wasn't supposed to cross, hoping to trade Henry Gale for Walt. Henry remained in the hatch, growing impatient with his captors. As Jack waited for an answer, the "Others" had their own ideas about how to get their man back.
He (Michael) commited to memory the list of the 4 people he needed to bring across the island. But first it was time to say goodbye. Just in time to say hello, again, to Desmond.
The following day, Michael assembled everyone on the list and they left the beach in search of Walt. Mr. Eko had taken over the duties of pushing the button in the hatch, when Desmond and Locke began their experiement to see what would happen if the timer went down to zero, and Mr. Eko was locked out.
Sayid was convinced that Michael was leading his friends into a trap, so he set out by boat to find the "Others" camp and help them. Sayid arrived at the camp Michael described only to find it empty. The "Others" were gone. In fact, they were miles away waiting in the jungle for Michael's friends.
Eko's attempt to blow open the hatch had failed, and Locke and Desmond were at odds inside .
After Michael delivered his friends to the "Others", the time had arrived to meet their leader.
And so it goes. People lost in their journey. Lost in their lives. But the island provided opportunity. Some may rise, some may fall. And you wonder who will lose faith - who will survive.
And who really are the good guys?
