The Pearl Hatch
A brief history of the hatch: During the lockdown, Locke sees and attempts to memorize the blastdoor map. There is a large "?" in the center of the map. Later, Eko has a vision of both Ana and Yemi, urging him to help Locke find the "?" Eko demands that Locke accompany him to the location on the map. It leads them to the site of the crashed Beechcraft.
Under the wreckage, Locke and Eko discover the opening to a long, underground tunnel which leads them inside the Pearl Hatch. This station is equipped with a bank of television screens that monitor the interior of the Swan Hatch, a computer and printer that logs every entry of the "Numbers" inside the swan hatch, some notebooks, a pneumatic tube and another Orientation filmstrip. According to this filmstrip, the Pearl Hatch is designed to house two people on 8 hour shifts. During their shifts, the DHARMA employees are to record everything that happens inside the Swan Hatch, write it down in the notebooks, and then send the completed notebooks up the pneumatic tube.
