Kate's biological father is Wayne, a slime ball. He hits Diane and seems a bit too attracted to Kate, but she says he never touched her.
(the implication is sure strong though)

Kate one night when Wayne comes home drunk, she helps him into his bed. When she leaves on her motorcycle the whole house goes up in flames.
